Audi A3 8P 2011 conversion to S-line

Hey all,

I'm 'henkkeumus' fresh from the Dutch Audi forums.
Was very active on the Dutch Audiforums but saw that this forum is much more active and since I'm a retrofit fanatic I instantly created a account here.

Since I'm Dutch hence my English, there can be some spelling mistakes.

I'm a Audi driver since since 4 years ago and never want to go back. I started with the 8L and had 2 other 8P's now (2005 and 2012). Since the strict environment rules around nitrogen and such in the EU I was kind of forced to sell my previous A3. It was a 1.6 TDI from 2012. The car would cost me a fortune to drive in Holland so I had no other choice then sell it.

In place came a 1.4 TFSI gasoline. I chose for this car because it had a decent mileage (180.xxx KM), was from 2011 and has a rain/light sensor already installed (never had that before and was dying for the CH/LH function hehe...).

For the rest of the car, plain standard Audi A3 and that's what I like to see as a retrofit fanatic.
Since I really like the S-Line from Audi I'm planning to convert this A3 to a interior and exterior S-Line A3.

- S-Line black (do not know how it's called, sky? everything above you inside the car)

- HBA (High Beam Assist)
- Footwell lights

First update;

The car came with a Chorus radio, this radio is *****. I wanted a RNS-e and found one on Ebay. Bought it, fitted it and worked well. because the car came with the Chorus fitted originally it didn't have a AUX input or GPS antenna. Took a look on the Chinese supplier website (gehehe) and found a really cheap GPS antenna and original retrofit Audi AUX input with 32pins connector (click for link).

Had a look around for some proper S-Line interior and found this used beauty's for €200,- (~170 GBP).

This company also had some other spares laying around and next to the interior I ordered a fresh 3-spoke S-Line steeringwheel.

Unfortunatly I don't have pictures of me building in the interior but will make some in the next couple of weeks . I've retrofitted the steeringwheel and coded the thing and voilla..

Second update;

Bought myself a centerconsole lid from the Chinese supplier. Unfortunatly it came in damaged and won't close nicely. Happily I've got a refund so it didn't really matter to me anymore .

I've also bought myself a cruisecontrol stick to retrofit and the steeringcolumn trim that goes around it. I've written a guide on how to retrofit a cruisecontrol stick on the 8P (link). Installed the beauty and can't live without it anymore, great extra feature to the A3...

Also bought myself some doorpanel cables with doorhandle illumination on them and warning/puddle lights. Never had those so it was a first timer. Bought the cables that came from a '07 A3 and mine is a '11. Connected the cables and boom... nothing worked... f*ck..... connected my old original cables and everything worked again, pfew... That means pins don't match up with my doormodule...

Update threeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee;

The emblem on my airbag was broken and I couldn't stand the sight of it...

Orderd a new one from the Chinese supplier and came in 2 weeks later;

Step 1 chop the thing out. It's molten plastic on the other side so getting the thing out was a bit of a pain in the ***..

Worked out in the end so the new one could be glued in place

Update four;

Did some small things today, since my car came with the Chorus radio it only got 2 front speakers and tweeters and that's all.
Wen't to the scrapyard and got me a Blaupunkt sub with 2 reardoor speakers and tweeters.

I've cut the original sub connector so I can look up the wiring on the internet. Luckily a Dutch Audiforum member told me how to hook this up so I can start wiring things..

Got the woofer on it's place now and planned tomorrow to get the wiring working, if it all works I can fit the products and retrofit the whole soundsystem .

I see I totally forgot to update my profile page, so here I am.

In the meantime some small things have happend.
I finished laying all the cables through the car for the subwoofer. The subwoofer works perfect but when I connect my rearspeakers to my subwoofer it gives me like a high pitch whine through the backspeakers. Even when I turn off the car it keeps whining en eventually turns off.. Anybody who knows what that could be? I layed RCA cables on the right side of the car and the constant 12v feed and remote turn on for the AMP on the left side. The RCA en live cables only meet in the trunk..

Bought myself some new connectors and pin for in that particular connector. Jeez what a pain in the ***, had no fingers left after putting those in...

Couldn't for the world knew where to get the cable feed through.. Ended up with this solution, works like a charm and really out of sight .

For the people also wanting to do this retrofit, the pinout is the following on the subwoofer connector;
I've cut out the connector from a donor car on the car graveyard , this way I knew the colors and was searching for the correct pinout not a pain in the *** .

Yellow = Audio in RR
Green = Audio in RL
Grey = Earth for RR/RL

White = Remote turn on AMP

Orange = Can-Low
Orange/Purple = Can High

Red/Blue = Constant 12V
Brown = Earth

I have a RNSe and the pinout is just as easy as reading the sticker on the RNS...
In case you dont have the sticker, underneath the RNSe pinout.

Connector A
PIN 2 = RF +
PIN 3 = LF +
PIN 6 = RF -
PIN 7 = LF -

Connector C
PIN 5 = Line out RL
PIN 8 = Line out GND (Earth cable)
PIN 11 = Line out RR

Connector D
PIN 14 = Remote AMP turn on cable

When these cables are connected the subwoofer should work with your RNSe. The front speakers are amplified by the AMP inside the radio, only Bose soundsystems have a different setup. But those need a seperate AMP, not covering that here.


I've also ordered some footwell lights from the internet and put those in. To got them working with my MFA DIS and such I connected them to the ECU.

PIN50 in the white ECU connector is the live feed for the footwell lights. I've got the earth from the back of the steeringwheel column out of sight.

Another fun update, put the AUX option back to my MJ2011 A3.

I really like the looks of it...

Thats a small update of my work now..
I've ordered some original S-line door trims and next thursday I'm going to pick up some S-line parts (roof, doortrims, a/b/c trims etc..)
