Audi A3 Wont Start and Dashboard is dead

I went to start my Audi A3 and the car started up, then the dash went off and the car cut out. A friend of mine has VCDS and ran a scan, with the following results. Anybody had any similar problems?

How healthy/old is your battery?

I've seen similar multiple faults caused by a failed or failing battery.

Hi, thanks for that. I had a spare battery kicking round and it still has the same issue. Battery was my first thought but that doesn't seem to be the issue. After doing the VCDS scan I am more inclined to say it's immobiliser issue.

That's usually an immobiliser or key fault.

Does the instrument cluster work at all? Faults pretty much match a faulty processor in the instrument cluster if its completely dead. Had a similar case and I sent off the cluster to a specialist to get looked at and repaired if possible which it was. £180 and it was back to normal

Your dash is dead threfore car wont start - immo is located in cluster as well. You can get a second hand on one and adapt it mate. Whereabouts are you?

If the dash is dead, its gonna be cheaper to get a second hand replacement of ebay and adapt it. Check fuses under the bonnet, if you have 30 fuses box then check fuse 6, if 54 then fuse no 17

So you have the exact same problem as I did. The cluster has the immo in it and since the cluster is dead it wont let you start it. Its usually the processor of the cluster which goes bad which is replaceable. Just find a shop specialised in fixing instrument clusters/VAG clusters and send it in to get checked/repaired. Way cheaper than a new cluster and you dont lose mileage or need to recode it after you get it back
However this only applies if the cluster is completely dead and doesnt show any signs of life when turning the power on

£35 second hand on ebay, plus the cost of adapting immo. These clusters are pretty simple to recode. Can't see it cheaper fixed by specialists.

That is true but I dont think it would be that much more expensive to just fix the old one and keep the original mileage. Or can you actually change the mileage after it has been set once on a used cluster? If the mileage doesn't matter then its better to go for a used unit

Sure you can set mileage to any value you want on any used cluster.

Don’t think you can just swap ecu’s. The new one will need coding using Odis I think and component protection removing.

Thanks for this. I had exact fault conditions as described. I pulled all fuses and checked them visually. All looked good. In reading this, I went back to check SB6 under bonnet and behold, a hairline break. Tested with multimeter U/S. Replaced and dash lights on, car runs fine. Thanks, this saved me a huge bill for a booking with a specialist mechanic.
