Now before you let loose at dismantling the motor housing do something I did not do (and learnt the hard way), MARK the position of the motor casing with a black marker

I've just been trying t o do this myself.... Sadly I missed this step and did not mark it. The motor was working with 12v applied before i removed the motor housing, however now i have cleaned it and put it back together it does not turn with 12v applied. can anyone explain what misaligning the housing does and what the consequences are?

I've tried replacing the housing in both possible positions (ie 180 degrees out) but it wont turn with 12v applied in either position now.
