im looking at permently removing the swirl flaps from my 3.0 tdi
Anyone done this before

What is wrong with them ? . I know in some cars such as some of the diesel BMW's the engine likes eating them but in the AUDI that's not an issue.
The flaps improve mixture formation at low engine speeds by generating swirl in the intake air. The two intake paths on each cylinder have different shapes a spiral one and a tangential one.
If you remove the arms off the actuator and fix the flaps in the open position then you can see how it drives.
The engine would need the map altering to stop it throwing error codes.
