I have an Audi S4 B8 3.0 TFSI – A few months ago developed a problem with the sports differential and I have been trying to resolve this for a few months now. Just wondering if anyone on here can point me in the right direction, as I am now at a loss.

I was driving along and on the dash appeared "sports differential fault" when I got back, I did a VCDS scan which returned:

I replaced the module with another controller from eBay (same codes and looked identical) which gave a different error code.

I have had an auto electrician have a go at programming this to change the VIN on the module, but it comes back with the same errors.

Does anyone know where I can go next with this? As every time I start the car it beeps “sports differential fault” which is a constant reminder to fix it.

Cheers

Looks like it has component protection. You will need a main dealer or specialist to remove this.

Thanks for the reply - I did have a specialist have a go at this with ODIS? which is the Audi dealers software right? This returned the same error, do you think it would be worth purchasing another module that doesn't have protection activated?

Just about any module from another car will activate component protection when fitted to your car. CP has to be removed with an online connection back to the audi servers in Germany. Another module will go CP active when plugged into your car.

So this can only be carried out by Audi themselves? The specialist I had to look at this had some kind of US software on a heavy duty android tablet, I'm not sure exactly what the software was, but apparently ODIS. I will speak to Audi today as I have this booked in for an S-tronic oil change at the end of next month.

For anyone with this problem, my only option is to do the following to stop the error code at start-up - code out 22 awd in module 19 and deselect sports differential in 17-instruments. Disconnect plug to control module

I gather ODIS is what the dealer or specialist uses. It does need the online connection back to Germany for CP to be successfully removed. Unless of course the part is registered as stolen on the German server in which case CP can’t be removed.

Is there a way to reset the module? One of the adaptation channels perhaps? I don’t have a sports diff so can’t check.

I've just spoke to the specialist and it's not to do with component protection, the software was called SRC which has some kind of connection back to somewhere that can remove the protection. The module just can't be talked with/flashed for some reason.

SVC = software version control.
But can he fix it?
