MY CCM has failed on my 8N1 TT Roadster my part no. is.

8N7962267C

However i've found a module on ebay ending with 'E' not C (8N7962267E), now im aware the 8n8 modules are for coupes and dont offer control for roof. However im not sure how the end iteration from C to E differ. I checked the part numbers. Looking in the online Audi parts catalogue it shows both in fact it lists my current module part number under a 2002 model. Whereas i have a 2003 model.

8N7962267C

8N7962267E

Do you know if im ok to go with the E variant?

Well ive had a read looks like the last letter isn't so important referring to newer versions. I have ordered this E variant now hopefully will work will report back here.

OK i managed to get another CCM this time ending with an E 8N7962267E

As ive seen elsewhere the last letter is just denoting an evolution or version but to all intents compatibility was fine. You can't use the other version which is 8N896 this is the hard top version which will leave you without control for roof.

Hope that helps.

So you fitted the ccm ending with an E and everything worked as it should ?
I have a fried ccm that ends in a C and have the chance to buy an imaculate one that ends with an E but I've been told it won't work :frown new:

It was an audi specialist who looked up for me as I thought the end letter would just be superseding the previous letter but apparently not according to audi they are all number and letter specific ‍♂️

Well if it's on ebay try it if it doesn't work send it back?

Hi :)
Here is my experience with this CCM replacement.
My roadster is a mk1 / year 2000.
My 8N7962267 (no letter) took water some years ago and i lost remote control on my 2nd key fob following this. (my 1rst key fob was already dead before this water problem).
So I replaced my 8N7962267 CCM by a 8N7962267 E (bought on ebay..)
All was working back except the remote control (no chance since it was my initial problem).
I bought a new key fob on aliexpress (chip 4d0837231A like in my other keys: but no success with this 3rd key)
Meanwhile I've found interesting information: the keys coming with MK1 roadsters whose year are <= 2002 used 4D0837231A (or N) chips
but the keys from roadsters whose year are >= 2003 used 4D0837231K chips
Could this letter in the key electronic make the difference here ?
my 2¢ on the original problem... thanks for the help !
Phil

Hi
I confirm 4D0837231K key fobs work fine with 8N7962267 E CCM (roadsters 2003-2006)
4D0837231A/N key fobs work with 8N7962267 A/B CCMs (roadsters 1999-2002).
So if you change your CCM from a 8N7962267 A/B to a 8N7962267 E, you'll need to update the keyfobs chipsets (and to rsync your keys with the new CCM)
Best,
Phil

More importantly there are two different (incompatible) protocols used on the MK1. They had different Audi part numbers, and take different numbers of batteries.
1998 - 2002 4D0837231A use 2 x CR1620
2002 - 2006 4D0837231K use 1 x CR2032

Hi Phil,
I found your post very interesting as I'm having to replace my old water damaged 8N7962267B CCM with a used 8N7962267E on my 2001 Audi TT MK1.
You referred to having to resync the keys (only 1 in my case) with the new CCM which I understand, however, I'm a little confused by what you mean about having to also update the keyfobs chipsets.
Would you mind providing some more information on updating the keyfob?
Does it mean taking out the old chip from the fob and replacing it, or does it mean obtaining a later year fob and just adding the old blade?
I presume my keyfob is a 1998 - 2002 4D0837231A version which was compatible with the water damaged 8N7962267B CCM, however, when I change the CCM to the later 2nd hand 8N7962267E one, my keyfob will not be compatible with it, and therefore I'll have to update the chipset to a 2002 - 2006 4D0837231K version, but how is my question?

Regards

Hi Chris,
Sorry for this very late answer...
You can either buy a chinese clone (see for example: https://fr.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-4d0837231k.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.search.0 )
or a "second hand" genuine key on eBay (just do a search on 4d0837231k).
In both cases, just unclip the lower part of the new key and clip it into your upper part.
My own experience:
Second hand genuine keys may be safer to buy since chinese clones may work fine or not.
My 4d0837231k chinese clone works but every morning I have to press the lock/unlock buttons 2 or 3 times before the car opens.
No problem with the 2nd hand genuine key, it works fine every time I press the lock/unlock buttons.
I changed my CCM in 2019, updated my keys in 2023 (from 4d0837231A keys to 4d0837231K keys) ... all's working fine since then,
Best,
Phil
