Hi all, Having a mare trying to find rear shocks and springs for my 98 S4 avant, The original numbers on the Boge/Sachs units i have removed are 81 4903 556 160 - Multiple searches online cant get these anywhere, must be obsolete, So whats the next best thing, Cant find S4 shocks anywhere, Alls i can find is Quattro rears from Germany on Ebay, Will fit all quattro models. Cant see there being much difference if any with regards to the weight in the rear of a 2.8 quattro avant and an S4 avant. Any reccomendations or should i go for the Quattro parts. Mine are shot to sh*t, dampers dont come back up and the springs are snapped.

Thanks in advance guys. Pilla.

TBH the best thing you can probably do is just go and buy a Bilstein B12 kit for it.

The only place you can get the springs is the main dealer, and they're about £80 each.

Most aftermarket suppliers wont sell shocks/springs for "sport" suspension models, and that includes the S4. You can buy a pair of standard replacement Bilstein rear shocks for a 2.8 Quattro for about £240, but they wont be properly rated to match the S4's sport springs.

Or you can buy this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bilstein-...232976?hash=item46412dd350:g:GhsAAOSw9r1V9~qG

And get four new dampers and four new springs, a subtle drop and much improved ride...

Aragorn, much appreciated for your help, you know all about the B5 from what i can gather, but i will be honest with you, I dont have £400 to throw at shocks, I wish i did, My fronts are fine, they seem fine, anyway, the issue was one snapped spring on the n/s rear and some tired dampers, which would make the car very scary to drive at anything over 40mph. Im just looking to get the car roadworthy for the time being and maybe in time, uprate the suspension when funds allow. Would a rear spring and damper setup suited to a 2.8 quattro be suffice for normal driving conditions, im not going racing or anything, I just want to get this old tank on the road and get it through an MOT. Just cheap parts for the time being. What do you think? Thanks bud.

Like i say, the parts you need simply arent available.

You can buy boggo standard 2.8 Quattro springs for 30quid a side, but it'll have the **** end sitting up in the air like a tractor, as they'll be standard ride height rather than sport. No-one makes Sport height springs, without buying a lowering kit.

The cheapest way would be something like these:
http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/product_info.mhtml?product=2660203

and then shocks like this, which do infact come in sport-spec:
http://www.buycarparts.co.uk/trw/2198324

The problem is, even that approach is going to cost nearly 300quid and its going to be nowhere near as good as the B12 kit.

Maybe it would be better to find someone selling some used standard S4 shocks and springs, and fit them just now while saving up for the B12 kit...
If you ask around on AudiSRS you might find some. Its possible i might have a pair of standard shocks in the garage (and maybe even some springs but i can be sure) that would tide you over, if you want me to have a look for you?

If you have standard S4 shocks and springs, I would certainly be interested, as i would rather keep standard ride height because there are some really high speedbumps where i live and dont want to cause any damage to the sump etc. Ive just had a look at the links, seems fair to say it would be better getting the Bilstein kit, but a good standard setup would do me fine. Thanks for all the help. When you get a chance, no rush, just let me know if you have any and we will make a deal. Thanks.

I replied to your question in the" b5 quattro breaking" thread but I don't think I can help you out as the stuff I've got is for a saloon.

Yes, thanks anyway though, If Aragorn doesnt have the parts i will bite the bullet and buy some sports dampers and a spring kit.
