B8 Big brakes thread?

hahaa I was looking last night & couldn't find the info.
Tried again today & bingo lol

The guy I got my RS4 8 pots from had put on RS6 390's, direct fit he said. Seeing as the RS4's went on my S4, I imagine the only fitment issue is the shieds being too small

I'm hoping to get some free time tomorrow evening to clean this thread up a bit. All part numbers etc for the Q5 kit, maccan cooling ducts will be moved to the first post and credit given. Thanks to everyone that has contributed so far :)

Right, i can't change my original post because it's too old... but here's all the info for 1 kit in 1 place

Audi Q5 4 Pot Brembo Upgrade (Using S4 345mm discs)

CALIPERS: 8R0615107E & 8R0615108E (front brembos 345x30 Q5 ) (Thanks @xpoweruk )

DISC OPTIONS: Plenty of aftermarket, or oem options so not going to fling a load of part numbers out there because it's easy info to find, but for an uprated disc look at the 2 piece discs from ECS tuning (purchaseable in the uk via awesomegti)

COOLING UPGRADES: One of the mains problems most people come across with the stock s4 brakes is the lack of cooling so the brakes start fading far too early. These upgrades are recommended to compliment the Brembo Q5 kit.

Thanks to @xpoweruk for posting this:
Macan brake ducts & duct clips (different part number for each duct as they are handed) thanks to @desertstorm for info.
95B615447B x1
95B615448B x1
95B699011B x2

they can be bought online @ http://www.design911.co.uk/pages/fastPartFinder.aspx £18.98 delivered

The ducts are not a straight fit, they require some fettling, unfortunately I haven't fitted a set myself yet so can't provide a guide yet.

My vehicle: A4 B8 3.0q tdi 2009 brakes F320mm/R300mm
Hi
Lot of good info great thread.
I'm currently sorting out this set up.
Front
Could some one please tell me if i need different fixing bolts from what i currently have to fix the above calipers.(I'm guessing yes)
Also what year and model Q5 do these come from so i can do my homework and order what i need.

Front & Rear: S4 B8 F345/R330mm set up
Now I know every one says its just the carriers that are different on these brakes (to my vehicle) but has any one done just that, it seems most put on full set up from breakers.
I know the front calipers have a different part number, My vehicle 2009: 8K0 615 123 B.
S4 2010: 8K0 615 123 A, but don't know the relevance.
I know the new carriers are silly money but if can get hold of them cheap.and they fit, save work in fitting as well.Ideal for the rear of mine.

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

I used the original bolts when refitting the Q5 calipers on my car. The part number and physical size of the bolt is the same M14x1.5 x 48.
People don't just fit the caliper carriers as sellers do not want to split a carrier from a caliper. The bolts that hold the caliper carrier to the caliper are Torx Plus and 98% of people wouldn't have the correct socket for these.Or want to split them.
http://www.exx.se/techinfo/bolt_heads/index.html
The difference in caliper body on an S4 is due to the S4 label being attached and S4 calipers are painted black from the factory.
The 4 pot Brembo 345mm calipers were fitted to Q5's from around 2013 but which models I am not sure.It will certainly be more powerful models.
The 4 pot Brembo also appears to have been fitted to some A6 and A7 models since 2015.

However not sure what models and trying to buy second hand calipers off nearly new cars can cost nearly as much as buying them new.
Be careful if buying second hand Brembo calipers as there are millions of 320mm ones around and they look very similar to the 345mm items.
The 345mm items have a hole in the web on the carrier part of the caliper. 320mm items don't have this.

Thanks Karl
What a great answer!
I didn't realise you had to undo the the torx plus.I thought the carrier and caliper were separate.
Do you happen to know if the rear stock 300x12mm solid disc caliper is the same as the S4 330x22mm vented caliper.
Thanks

I am pretty sure they are the same caliper but again nobody splits carriers from calipers and the carriers are expensive to buy so it's a bit of a moot point. The s4 caliper is again painted black from the factory.

I hear you, thanks for your replies, they have helped.

I'm just about to run some tests on this subject as there is endless debate.

Keep your eyes on performance Audi for the full article soon.

i have just fitted ttrs calipers to my b8 using an adapter bracket designed for 345mm discs. The actual calipers are used were DB9 calipers as i got them cheap. They are very good, much better pedal than rs5 ones i tried then removed

I noticed the Aston Martin calipers when searching on fleabay. They look very much like the Brembo 4 pot calipers from the q5.
I can't imagine that a set of calipers and brackets would be much less than what you can buy a new set of Q5 calipers for.

These were very cheap via a local dealer but i would agree normally they would be a similar price. unlike the q5 calipers these are aluminum monoblock and lighter as a result also the piston sizes on these are staggered 44 and 42mm the q5 calipers are all 42mm pistons.
