Back up of current car settings - VCDS

What's the best way of creating a backup of the current car settings in VCDS?
In case something goes wrong can you then use this "backup" to restore the settings in the car to what they were before.
If that makes sense.

Personally I took screenshots of where necessary or print them off

Run an auto scan and save it. All changes are also logged automatically. This thread explains it.

The auto scan is a good starting point.
But I don't think you can restore the car to it's original settings by using those files.

I'm thinking of a Micro-Soft Windows-style restore backup, which can be used to restore you car computer(s) back to what they were.
Just is case thongs go pear shaped.
