Hey all,

I picked up an a3 8l 1.8t sport with 133k on the clock. It has full service history, Audi up to 79k, then private garage there after. It had its last service at 121k miles where the cam belt was replaced also (no receipt of water pump being done though).

My question to you all is, seeing as I didn't pay an awful lot for the car, is it worth carrying on the service history? I have a mate who works in the local seat workshop who can get me a discount on the service, but still waiting on a final price.

Or, do I buy the bits and do it myself. I'm not a master mechanic, bit have a fair bit of knowledge of how to do things and a service should be ok.

I'm stuck really as if I did sell it on, it would obviously have the history.

I plan for this year to get it running nice, sort out the front end knocking and just generally tidy it up, then in that year, buy aftermarket bits for it, wheels, suspension, intercooler etc etc and fit once I have them all.

Also, I have a brand new 5l bottle of shell helix 5w-40 fully synthetic oil I was going to use in my previous car, will this be ok for the agu engine?

Thanks in advance
Ben

do oil changes etc yourself, send it into specialist for belt services
