As above I have a rear brake light out. Got the warning on the dash so popped to local auto shop and looked at the list and saw I needed a a 382 bayonet bulb . got home removed the light cluster only to find the bulb is wrong. Am i right in thinking that its the top bulb in the cluster for brake light? Also what type is the bulb looks like a big 501 wedge type bulb to me . thanks

If its an 8p1 or 8p2 then 382 is correct. If its an 8p3 or uve retrofitted the led rears then u need a 955. But make sure u get the correct bulb, there are 955s available as 16w or 21w and i know most the VAGs run the 16w. The original is a toshiba bulb so see if u can find some of those

Usually the bulb type is indented into the metal part or imprinted onto the glass.

Yeah sorry its a 8p3 and it was a 955 bulb I couldn't get the Toshiba one so I got a Bosch one from halfrauds cheers guys
