Can Double Din Card Holder be swapped for a drinks holder

As the title says, can the Double Din Card Holder be swapped for a drinks holder? The card slot is of no use but a coffee cup holder would be.

Yes it can, but you will need to pull out the surrounding plastic cover lets call it, and enlarge the opening a little on the sides so that the cup holder can fit in.

I think most people have swapped the front cardholder "cover" on to the drinks holder so it fits the slot in the switch surround plate. However it doesn't actually just "clip" on. I think opening up the switch surround to accommodate the drinks holder cover is a good idea but may not give the desired smooth edged finish in the dash - I think either way there's a bit of DIY involved in this.

I found there was a lot of dremelling to fit the cardholder cover on to the drinks holder and even then had to set it with super glue. It now works fairly well. I do not know why AUDI chose to drop the drinks holder with the doubledin headunits.
