Scrap that!

I now think it's the part number for just the LED bulbs but confirmation would be great. However if anyone knows the part number for the whole unit that too would be useful.

yes that part number is only for the light emitting diode.

Yes thats the LED as above, about time you got etka Ron, assuming its the front you want, whole front unit that is listed as interior & reading light without sunroof, appears to be 8E0947135D with a colour code of 6PS for soul black, now make sure you double check with TPS or Dealer, given there are multiple listings in page 947-00 under 08 A3
