Charging battery not in use

@Dippy @rum4mo having been out and looked under the bonnet there are very obvious fixings for both our Golf and Ibiza. The Golf had a fixing post just as @rum4mo described. Hopefully this is helpful for other village idiots like me and apologies for the thread hijack!

Yes that tag on the Golf looks like its plated to avoid it rusting, same as the under bonnet posts on my 2011 S4, that domed nut on the Ibiza, same as my wife's Polo, they look like they might be painted, so I roughened up the two faces I use when charging the Polo up - and I applied Vaseline to prevent it rusting up later on, I did not test the Polo one to see if the coating was conductive though. That Golf one is exactly the same as my daughter's 2019 SEAT Leon Cupra - as you would expect.

Charger finally came by snail mail, so finally installed my home made loom complete with soldered plugs and terminals.
Kept me busy while holed up in the house to relieve the boredom.
I must say my battery was a tad hungry, but charging nice at the minute, and with this always on, should prolong the life some what.
It's an 11 year old battery lol, and was half expecting it to be no good.
But no, all healthy, just a touch low.
Another vote for maypole.

All you need to do to make the cigarette lighter socket permanently live (i.e. connected to the battery) is a fused loop. Then put a cigarette lighter plug on the output wires of your charger. Works fine, I've had this for several years now.
