Not wanting to steer the conversation away from the OPs lovely new S3, but for me with a choice of those 2 it would be a very easy decision, CLA 35 all the way - identical performance wrapped up in a much more stylish body.
The £475 annual VED for both is a downside though.

We’ve seen the light mate but we won’t win anyone over here. Audi have cut many corners in quality with the 8y vs Merc who have seriously upped their game.
