Hi,

I've currently got a B6 1.9 PD (130) and the miles have just gone over 220K and keep thinking about a later avant - B8/8.5 Tdi seems to be a logical choice. But having spoken to a few mates in the garage trade, they say that HPFP failures are noticeable if not common. Whilst, I'm not going to take them literally - is the HPFP a possible issue\weakness on the B8/8.5's?

Cheers

Not just on B8's but all CP4's are generally a ticking time bomb - if you get metal into the injectors they are also scrap.
I've replaced CP4 pumps with CP3 (but this is not a plug and play solution).

Having said that I've seen cp4's on many high mileage cars.

Hard to avoid a CP4 pump on a modern diesel they are used on many different manufacturers cars and models. There are issues with them as there are a few class action law suits in America. As Bobby says the big issue with the pump failing is that it puts small metal fragments into the system meaning you end up having to replace all the injectors and piping.
Fortunately they don't fail really often. Certainly doesn't help putting petrol in one of these or poor quality diesel.
