Recently had water pump, cam belt changed. Since work done, the engine sits at a lower temperature than before. It used to sit bang on 90 when warmed up, but now its more like 85, can even drop down to below 80 sometimes. Just wondering if this is in anyway a bad thing??

Was the Water Pump damaged at all?

if the old one was cracked then the lesser flow can be counteracted by a weak thermostat and appear to be normal.

After a fresh pump is installed that works properly it can then highlight the thermostat behavior is weak.

We usually recommend a thermostat with a cambelt/w.pump job.

Its also possible the coolant mix being fresh now is highlighting different properties of cooling but I wouldnt think it could make such a big difference.

Yeah new thermostat.....same thing happened on my A3 1.8T when i had the water pump changed, it wont cause you any problems.... tho its worth sorting.
