Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience/help/ideas for a creaking sound that has developed during low speeds on uneven surfaces and when parking.

So I’ve had a few bits of work done recently all carried out at an independent VAG specialist.

No noticeable issues/noises before the MOT or works.

Passed MOT to the value of one new tyre (advisory of a deteriorated bush N/S LOWER - “but not resulting in excessive movement”), front tyres were swapped with rears to get through the budget tyres that were on when i bought the car.

During the MOT a wearing auxiliary belt was picked up, so had that booked in a week later as well as a cambelt change which was due and 4 wheel alignment due to uneven wear on the replaced tyre.

During that week vibrations coming through the steering wheel around 50mph, advised it was due to a sticking front left calliper (replaced both front callipers, pads and discs).

All works were completed at the same time.

Since then I’ve had:
  1. A rattling noise coming from the front left (most noticeable when going over cats eyes)
  2. A creaking at low speeds over uneven surfaces (especially when the car ‘rocks’) and under light braking. Its very difficult to locate where the creaking is from sometimes feels like front suspension, sometimes rear and sometimes from behind the dash
I’ve had it back to the garage, they can hear the creaking when road testing but are unable to replicate on the ramps. technician has inspected, greased joints on suspension etc to no avail. Was told if it gets worse bring it back in, which I’m doing this week.

Yes, its been an expensive month, but any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks in advance

According to a friend who has an Indy Audi repair shop, it's not uncommon for the bushings of the front sway bar end links to break free, so they will actually spin while turning, causing a creaking sound when turning.

I had this on my Allroad and sold it before I could cure it but had it to a couple of places where it was up on ramps, poked and prodded and no one could find anything.

I did read afterwards that the top mounts can cause this kind of noise

I found that when I dropped the rear seats in my S4 Avant my creaking stopped.

Another easy fix is lubricate the door seals. These get stiff and start making rubbing noises. I have to do mine every couple of months

What do you lubricate with ?

Well found out what my creaking was

NS REAR SHOCKER

Replaced today now creak free . . .

Hope it helps someone else.

Creaking is often something to do with suspension or brakes.A slightly sticking caliper which leaves the pad just touching the disc will cause a creaking sound when the wheel moves.I have a habit of cautiously touching the discs from time to time .If one is noticeably hotter than the other on the same axle its a sign of slight rubbing which you wouldnt otherwise notice. Some cheaper pads fit a bit loose which gives a lot of rattling over bumps etc

Well I now have a smaller sounding noise coming from rear passenger side door (I think ) it's like a creaking door opening and closing slowly at low speeds its starting to get on my nerves greased all rear joints last week but it's still there any ideas any1.
Local garage says could be dry rose Bush.
I really like a squeak free car.

Seeing as you have removed the undercover, are these studs that hold the undercover up threaded or grooved, ie do the plastic retaining "nuts" unscrew or do they need forcing off and new ones used when refitting the undercover?
Really only asking this as my wife's 2015 Polo also now uses these plastic "nut" retainers and someone on another forum was asking if these retainers are reusable as the older cars had ridged/grooved studs and force on metal retainers that needed to be deformed to get them off.

Yeah there reusable unscrew off like normal nuts some are attach to panel so they dont fall off and get lost there was on 3 that came off completely very easy to remove.

Was alot of mud and crud under there which has all been cleaned off.
