Cruise control

I don't know if this is right or not. Not got my booklet with me. S3 8V. While in CC I can change down gears and the CC doesn't disengage, so the car accelerates to the preset speed. Bit unnerving when I go from 5th to 3rd and I get a sudden surge fwd. I'm hoping it's not normal. Cars due to go in for servicing. Is this an issue I need to bring up or not?

Absolutely normal. Says so in the manual. I'm guessing, like me, you've been used to cars with a clutch switch which deactivates the CC. It took me a while to get used to being able to change gear without CC deactivating. Once you get used to it, it's quite handy.
