Hi, I am a newbie to this site, and unfortunately have a major problem with my Audi A4 2.0lt FSI Sline Quattro Special Edition 2006.

The cars oil pressure light came on then the car died. After removing the head it seems that the oil was starved to the camshaft and ceased then causing the cam chain to snap. The head and one of the cams are now scored. The engine specialist who looked at it said that I needed a new head as mine couldn't be repaired. In the past I have known the heads to be machined and shells put in place but don't know why this type of engine can't be done similar, don't know if it is because it is alloy?

What I wanted to know - My engine is a BUL type and the cylinder head states 06D 103 061 AB, is this the only head type I can replace it with? I know the special edition is more powerful but didn't think the head would be any different to most FSI 2.0lt's apart from it's chip, but when I looked up the spec it showed that BUL FSI engine was the one that produced 220 bhp, but still not sure if the head is unique, if so there doesn't seem to be any out there

Can anyone advise please?

Regards

Peter

other heads will fit

Thanks Hades for your reply, sorry to ask, but how do you know? is this your field of work or have you had a similar problem. Just want to be sure before forking out a lot of dosh on one.

Peter

I know via Iv had same problem as you
There's small differences between some heads but they all fit
Give it a few hour and someone will come along with part numbers to fit

Did the engine specialist say what caused the oil pressure failure? Was it the common oil pipe up pipe guaze blocked or the actual oil pump failing? It would be nice to know what caused it.

Mark.

Hi Mark

No, all he said was significant enough to need to replace the head. I do hope to find out more since need to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Hi sorry to hear about your probs, i too have the same model but the avant, and i've also had quite a few issues inc engine ones.
Along the way i did have a conversation with a very helpful guy in germany about the tfsi engine issues and if the problems vary from variants and engine codes.
seems like all have the same or similar probs although some may not due to revised parts being fitted etc.
From my understanding the BUL is a little different in several areas aswell as the ecu mapping, speak to craig cull this forum here as he's very knowledgeable on the tfsi engines etc and can help you with parts and compatability.
hope you get it sorted .

Thanks for your reply, I will have to contact Craig. Hope to find a solution soon as it has been of the road for nearly a month, miss driving it, having to use sons Micra!!

Hi peter,
Sorry to hear of your oil pump failure, these engines seem to be dying a death these days.
From experience it's the balance shaft on the oil pump that sheers the sprocket, jamming the chain, snapping the chain, locking the oil pump and usually strips the teeth off the crank to add insult to injury.
(Oil pump is chain driven off the crank)
I hate to be the bearer of bad news (people are starting to hate me on here because of this)
But the likely hood is you will require a full engine. Unfortunately. If the block is good which I doubt then you may get away with a crank, oil pump and a head, but will need new piston rings and all the gaskets etc.
I would probably look at an engine tbh.

I have this same issue, and its come around at such a bad time (as they always do)

I need some info on which cylinder heads will fit 2.0 tfsi, whether the engine code matters, if i have to source a replacement engine.. does it have to be the exact same code or model etc?

Just a few questions lol, im sure it would be helpful for a few people too.

You can use any cylinder head really but the BYD BHZ and CDL are k04 based so they have a different inlet camshaft.
But you can still use it with your k03.
AXX BGB BUL and BWA are all the same as above just with the k03 inlet camshaft.
All will do the job.
I have a full CDL head with brand new camshafts, valves, springs and lifters if you get stuck.

Hi I'm new here, hello, sorry I'm asking for something in my first post but I'm in need of a bul cylinder head I though this would be the correct thread. Cheers Rae.

I was about to say, get hold of Craig Cull.. but alas the Spec Edition guru is here already! haha

Thanks for the reply, do you know if he still has a head for sale then?

Hi Craig, Can you phone or text me on the number I've messaged you please. Cheers Rae.

Car is up and running now, thanks for all your help Craig. Rae.

Hi there, I'm another newbie here.. and in need of some help!

I've got the exact same issue! Which calling around the car wreckers sounds very common.

My car has a BGB engine 2.0 Turbo FSI.. and I'm fairly certain it is just the head that is damaged, as mechanics have inspected the bottom bearings and cleared the pickup gauze. Car was back running, but with damaged cam journals so its future is a bit dicy.

I'm currently on the hunt for a used head.

I've started extending my search to engines in the VW range. But do I need stick to turbo only models? Or will anything 2.0 work?
I've currently looking at a Golf 2.0FSI in front of me Engine Code: BLX, not sure if this is a go??

I wish there was a table of engine codes that would work! Please anyone in the know! I would be super grateful!
