Has anyone had two or more diamond cut alloys repaired by their dealer. If so could you let me know what they cost, whether you were happy with them, and whether they gave you a courtesy car while the wheels were away being recut.

I have got one pretty bad, third of the rim courtesy of Luton airport short stay car park in the dark and rain, the other is minor (5cm) and don't remember doing it. I know I can get someone locally and reccommended for around £200 for the pair. However........

I can't drive a manual car for another 5 weeks, post knee op, but can drive a manual a couple of weeks earlier so was thinking I don't mind a slight premium price forbthecrepair if I get a courtesy car and if I time and book it right could be back driving a good week earlier.

Yes @Daveotto have experience. Sorry....long story.

My S3 alloy was "curbed" by my dealer when it went in for a service last September. They do this stupid Audi "health check" thing now and during that with it on the ramp (testing wheel alignment) it got damaged.

To be fair to my dealer, they admitted straight away they had done the damage as they had done it before to some other poor sods wheel (I kid you not).

My dealer said not to worry as Audi now run an "official" wheel replacement program. Basically they send the wheel off to http://www.pristinealloywheels.co.uk who are in Milton Keynes. Apparently they are located near VW headquarters and are some way related although looks like an independent company.

Was assured that it would be stripped, repainted and then diamond cut so repair would be "as new". I was not massively happy about this as didn't want to be fobbed off with a refurbed wheel and demanded a new wheel etc They noted that this firm repair all wheels for VAG UK and hence were the best.....

Anyways, my dealer booked in the S3 and gave me a courtesy A3 and let me choose auto etc. The wheel was back after 36 hours (it's couriered).

The result? It was a good repair but the shade was slightly off (both metal and painted bits). So I rejected it. I now have a brand new wheel which funnily enough matches the shade of the rear alloy.

As a side note, the wait for a repair slot on the Audi wheel scheme was 4 weeks. That turned in to 3 months because the dealer kept forgetting to book it in and missed repair slots etc. I think I got some good wil because of this for a new wheel when I kicked off.

Sounds similar to what you have been quoted as it's apparently £100 a corner.

Thanks @Pulp84 £100 a corner and courtesy car for 2-3 days start of April (4 weeks away) would be ideal for me and give me an auto gearbox to get me to an interview under my own steam, will call my local desire tomorrow and see what they quote.

Which is your local dealer if you're based near Luton? I use Hitchin Audi and was thinking of getting my wheels refurbed by an independent, but don't want to be without my car. I'd be interested to know how you get on.

They are not the closest to me, but only 30 mins from work so I use Hitchin Audi, so will let you know how I get on

I was told by my dealer this is a UK wide roll out for wheel refurbishments so if all the dealers are using it then it should be the same price (hopefully).

After sending some pics Hitchin Audi have come back with £65 + VAT (£78) per wheel and reckon they are onsite repair by the guy who comes in once a week. I did question this as they are diamond cut but was reassured they don't have to be sent away. Earliest they could do is 2nd week April

Either way it does not help me as its later than I need and no courtesy car. Not convinced on the onsite service unless he carries an onboard diamond polisher either.

Will look for collect and return service from home and think agsin in a plan to get an auto gearbox for a week

Pic is of the worse, courtesy of Luton airport pot hole, for anyone interested in what Audi believe can be repaired on site

It won't be a full repair, just a cosmetic touch up.

its amazing how easily these wheels get "gravel rash" all my wheels are marked and i know I've only come into contact with a curb etc with 2 of them.

depending what i do with the car in a year or two, will depend what i do with the wheels in terms of repair or replace. But if its only 100 per wheel, it could be well worth having them repaired.

Exactly would rather pay a few pound more for a full repair

I have been getting quotes from a few independents and have found a place that will collect the wheels from Essex/Herts area and then do the work at their premises. In my case I need all 4 wheels doing so they would leave the car on axle stands for the duration (3-5 days). It's £85 + VAT per wheel and no discounts for all 4.

Not sure if this is any good to you as it wouldn't keep you mobile.

I'm considering it as it wouldn't involve getting lifts or taxis back from the wheel specialists, but I could only do it when I am working in London and using the train.

I know you think that wheel looks bad and I feel for you, but trust me it's nothing compared to two of mine (done by the previous owner) I am too embarrassed to post a photo.

@chrisb72 can you send me the details, pm is ok, as this might work for me if they can do them in next couple of weeks as I am not so mobile myself and cars on the drive for a couple of weeks.
