Definitive List Of Car Care Products Needed!

Guys,
I would like a list of recommended products to clean and protect my car, from wash mitts to wax/sealant.
I don't want to go mad and spend hundreds but I would like some half decent stuff. Grounded answers please!

I am only just starting out at detailing, and use mostly Autoglym stuff:

Wash with a Halfords Sheepskin Mitt using Autoglym bodywork shampoo conditioner. Whilst it is wet I either dry with microfibre towels, or if I have a bit more time will use Aqua wax which is sprayed onto a wet car and wiped around and then buffed off. I guess its like a detailing spray??

I have used a combination of Super resin polish and extra gloss protection in the past which gives a good depth of shine but doesnt seem to last very long. However at the Motorshow last week they had a special on a new product High Definition Wax. I have only used this once and it is very user friendly and gives a good shine, too early to say how long it will last.

If the wheels are filthy I will use Meguiars Super degreaser. My wheels are a bit tatty so I dont worry too much, but have bought some Poorboys wheel sealent for my new wheels when they are ready.

I am not sure how professional detailers rate Autoglym stuff but it works for me and is affordable at the same time.

To answer this question properly, I need to know what colour your car is, what you need to fix/want to achieve, and whether you want to work by hand or machine. This is because different products give different results on the same colour, so to some extent product choice depends on colour. Also when it comes to polishing paint hardness varies a lot between different makes of car, so again, knowing what car you have and whether you want to work by hand or machine is important (as is knowing a little about the current paint condition). Post up a little more info and even a piccie or two and let me come back with my thoughts. :icon_thumright:

Hi Rich
I will be doing the work by hand, I'm no stranger to hard work!
I have a karcher so that's a bit easier, I used to wash my Audi (ebony black) and then dry with waffle towel, then autoglym super resin, and to finish turtle wax gloss guard.
Sometimes I would clay it, depending on how it felt.

Its Carbon Black, done 22k so i hope the paint is good (pick up tomorrow)

Hey, looking for the same info as A4 Quatto. I always thought i done a good job cleaning and polishing my car untill I read a few fourms. So the garage is getting a clear out and making room for some new products.

I Drive an 04 Audi A4, its silver and i feel as if i can't get a good enought finish on it compared to other cars i've had. Just don't seem to see the work i put in on it. It also has a few scratchs round the door hands and a couple on the body.

Would like to apply all products by hand as i'm a bit scared of using a machine as i'm a bit of a notive compared to use's

How would this lot work on a Metalic Purple?

I have Menzerna 302 and the 80.2?
Menzerna Final polish 11
A good Mothers 3 step system
And Megs tech wax 2
Should i look at changing to the above combo or can i keep some of what i have, as my car desperatly needs de swirling and a full touch up and make over

To correct spot defects such as the fine scratches mentioned, you would be best using Menzerna Intensive Polish, applied using a Lake Country German CCS Light Cut Pad. This will yield an improvement, but not full correction; to fully correct fine scratches in Audi paint a machine would be required, as it is rock hard and difficult to work. Werkstat Prime Acrylic is a light finishing polish that lays down a tough initial coat of acrylic protection whilst deep cleansing the paint; you should use it once every six months after claying. Werkstat Acrylic Jett Trigger is a pure spray sealant that should be used to add more gloss and protection every 6-8 weeks; the more layers you build up, the better the finish will get, in terms of both wetness and durability. Werkstat Acrylic Glos is a quick detailing spray and can be used to help boost gloss, lubricate when drying off after washing and loosen the residues of Werkstat Prime Acrylic and Werkstat Acrylic Jett Triggershould you find them hard to remove. Here are full instructions for each major six-monthly detail with the products...

After washing and claying (and corrective polishing if required), start out by applying a basecoat of Werkstat Prime Acrylic using the white Meguiars Microfibre Applicator Pad. Once fully dry, buff off this residue carefully with the Poorboys Super Thick & Plush Towel, using a spritz of Werkstat Acrylic Glos to help loosen the residue if needs be. To complete the process, apply a coat of Werkstat Acrylic Jett Trigger by spraying directly onto each panel and buffing off immediately with the Poorboys Deluxe Mega Towels, again using a spritz of Werkstat Acrylic Glos to help loosen the residue if needs be. To maintain the finish, simply quick detail with Werkstat Acrylic Glos after each wash, and add a fresh coat of Werkstat Acrylic Jett Trigger every 6-8 weeks until the time comes to start over by claying again.

You have two ways to proceed for awesome results on Sprint Blue. The first is to follow the Blackfire route outlined above (Gloss Enhancing Polish, then Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection, then optionally the wax) for a deep, rich, intensely glossy look. The second is to follow the Werkstat route outlined above (skipping the Intensive Polish step, which should not be needed on a new car) for a sharper, more reflective wet looking shine. Both systems are awesome, and the difference in the finishes subtle. I hope that helps! :icon_thumright:

Do you mean RD3.02 and 85RD - not heard of 8.02? Also, do you intend to work by machine or by hand? The polishes will be fine once we confirm the best method you should use, but be aware that the Blackfire range will run rings around the Mothers and NXT finishes on metallic purple.

I'm getting a coat of Zymol Royale done on Fri by a friend that is just setting up his business, will either of the two you have described above be ok to go ontop of this say in 3 months time when I want to deatil again?

yeah thats the ones, i didnt have them in front of me, i will make a new order up then, lol Just recieved my masking tape and wheel sealer, i knew i should have waited to save carriage.

i have a rotary variable speed polisher with a 5 inch velcro pad and the a few Lake country pads.

Sadly not, as both are sealant-based systems, and sealant should not be used over the top of waxes. My advice would be to instead look at the Raceglaze pure wax range, and '55' in particular - this is a very high quality wax featuring 55% carnuaba by volume, and it will sit over the top of the Royale perfectly. It will also give a great finish; not as sharp or reflective as the sealant-based systems, but much more glossy looking. :icon_thumright:

Hmm, lovely colour, fantastic pearl effect it gives judging by shots brought up by google images. Accordingly, for a mega reflective wet look, I would go with the Blackfire option outlined above, but repeated below for reference...

Just to clarify this is to go ontop of the Royale as and when I fancy giving it a coat of wax to improve the shine?

This is what I'm after really a good wax to compliment the Royale every month or so to keep ontop of the car.

Yep, exactly - '55' will go straight onto the Royal without any bonding issues, and will simply extend the protection and maintain the awesome gloss.
