Mine is a 2000 S4 model with a single Din Concert 1 radio. The speaker grill says Bose but not the headunit. Do I even have an amp?

The HU's on either system (Bose or non-Bose) are identical, you can program the HU to say Bose when you switch it on using VAGCOM, but if the HU was replaced at anytime then this coding might have been lost. It's purely cosmetic. The important thing is the amp & the speakers. You should have an amp in the trunk that looks like this:
This means you have the Bose upgrade as does the Bose logo's on the grills (although these could have been added I guess). IIRC you should also have a sub in the rear parcel shelf.
