Does the A2 opensky have any known faults?

The open sky roof is a very nice feature. I personally couldn't afford it when i bought my car new in 2004, as its a pricey option. But well worth it, as long as you don't buy the opensky and end up with the wrong car choice.
It does have issues though, but so does anything electrical on a car (within reason). However Its not always electrical issues it can be mechanical issues with the system locking. But as with every purchase its a part than can work every day your own the car or fail the first time you try it.
Knowing now about the Opensky system, I would avoid on a 2nd hand car and am glad my wallet didn't stretch that far at the time.

It can stick but keep the seals lubricated with silicone spray and you'll be fine. It has a manual system to close it if it does fail though so you won't be stuck with an open roof. It doesn't work with the total closure on the audi locking system although this can be changed I believe.
Is there any other known issues with the A2 or anything I should look out for when I start looking seriously?, mind you it seems difficult to find exactly what I want, which is a late 54/05 1.4 tdi sport with opensky (possibly) in black or one of the darker greys with a dark interior, also is the special edition ( not the SE ) like it is with my current A3 which is basically the base model with manual air con?

A2 can suffer with anti roll bar issues - its a known issue and can cause a knocking noise at the front esp over humps and stuff.
As far as the car goes Sport = very hard ride, my A2 sport is a stiffer ride than my S3 or moddified TT, it does look nice with the bigegr wheels, but it is at teh expence of ride quality. Havign had an SE and Sport, if I were to have a third I think I'd go for a sport and put aftermarket suspension on it to soften the ride as I like the sports seats and DIS functions.

The later the model the better, generally with all cars any revisions get carried out later in the run of production. SO an 54 is nearly as late as you can get and its really only the early ones that had issues with Radio receptions in the rear window etc.

1:ARB Anti roll bar issues just like the TT and polo. Buy a 54 and you will have the improved bar but it will still fail an MOT (mine has failed the first 2 on it) But the bushes are pence to buy and fit. i now have Power flex polly bushes.
2:Buckled wheels (sport only) like the TT and S3 the wheels are soft and can buckle, especially as the A2 sport has 205 40 profile making them shallower than the S3 and TT.

oor Hinge Cracking.In other forums people are getting in a frenzy about a problem that Audi have claimed is a cosmetic issue. You end up with a 2-5mm crack next to the door hinge on the passengers side in the alluminium door frame. Sounds dramatic, its not, the specialist aluminium Automotive manufacturer (Audi) says its not structural it is completely cosmetic, no ones doors drop, nothing happens it DOES NOTHING.
Out of the 3 issues I would say the first is the most common and the one that affects the car in terms of MOT, The last is a bit anal, and won't make a blind bit of difference to the car. If you are concerned about your car, Audi will look at it and provide a replacement door hinge panel. It doesn't repair it but cover it. Still indicating that its cosmetic....
These are probably the most common issues sounds bad but at least it doesn't have rust spots:icon_thumright:
Two more things, will the RS4 replicas that I have on my A3 fit? the're 7.5j x 17 offset ET45, tyres fitted are 215x45x17, do the polybushes make the firm sport suspension even harder?, I would in an ideal world like the look of sport suspension but soft enough to be comfy because the roads in sheffield are rubbish really, Where can you get a body kit from for A2's not a stupid one just subtle slightly beefed up styling?, I've seen pictures of some on the net but not found where from yet, did audi ever make an S-line of the A2? if so styling like that would be ok presumably if it's not over the top, always think the A3 S-line styling looks ok.
Yes the Audi A2 sport runs on 205x40R17 so the profile of the sidewall is less giving a firmer ride. The poly bushes don't really firm up the ride as they are only on the ARB which is only in play when cornering (largely) and doesn't have much effect running normally.
A2 sport and Comfy cannot be said in the same sentence, its waaaay beyond stiff lol. My other post about harsh ride on the Sport will give you some guidelines on changing it. (but you need to try one to see whether its too stiff for you)
The main body kit was only available through Audi so most have been discontinued and TBH from what i have heard the fit was poor. Various aftermarket companies will do a bit of body styling but it all looks a little "bolt on" looking if that makes sense. Sometimes they come up on ebay or Audis own ABT used to do them but they don't list the A2 on there site anymore.
The Uk A2 sport is I understand the European S line with a few very subtle changes like interior headlining etc.

Thanks for that, your's looks very nice I must say, not keen on the third pic it looks way too low for my liking, I'm glad you posted the white one up as I'm really into white cars at the moment & I've never seen a white A2, looks great with the opensky, are the pillars always black with opensky or have they been painted on that one?, I suppose with the A2 having wide arches if you get the ride height right and put on the right allys it looks quite chunky anyway without a bodykit, I don't know if I'm not looking close enough but only difference I can see body wise between yours & the others is the rear bumper been a bit deeper on the others?, I'm liking the idea of the A2 the more I talk about it LOL, it's not common, mega MPG, and well practical for it's size.
Yeah the standard offering isn't bad. The bumper at the back does look smaller on mine, but im sure its an optical illusion as you can't replace that with anything, and the cars shown haven't used loads of body filler to extend it. The white version is very rare, As the A2 was produced in the age of black is best lol. The A & C Pillars including the roof have been vinyl coated or sprayed to give that black white contrast which looks great.
