Hi.

DPF light came on...long story short got it cleaned from a company called Flash Cleaning...they removed DPF and EGR Cooler...cleaned them...put back in...Remapped my Car and car drives perfect now with no DPF issues ...BUT

The S-tronic box now makes like a crunching noise in gear changes, both up and down. There was a slight flywheel rattle before the remap and dpf issue....but that was on idle only .not with gear changes.
Any advice pls?

Does the gearbox need remapping too which is what I've been told to do??

Please advise. Thanks

More torque could have disturbed things, best to check if the box can be serviced, if so then maybe get it done which also includes, if done properly, a calibration aswell.

Thanks for reply.
Had s tronic box serviced by Audi 10k miles ago...so defo doesn't need a oil change.

So I should get the gearbox remapped? I think it's called a TCU Remap??

They mechanic said gearbox needs to match up with engine speed etc hence needs a remap?

Regards
Kam

Do a box reset, see if that helps before mapping the box.

Hi. Done the box reset today.

Hold pedal down for 15 to 30 seconds with ignition on etc etc.

No difference at all.

I have just booked a gearbox map / tune so will see how I get on Sunday.

How exactly did you reset it, as usually its with vcds or the like

Hi. Mechanic done it with VCDS laptop connected etc.
Also did a 20 second acceleration pedal hold down.

But no difference at all.
He says either box needs a remap to match the torque of the ecu remap and the fact that dpf got opened...cleaned and put back on so no carbon build up....etc...or flywheel is on its way out??

Did the mechanic explain how a piece of software was going to fix a resumed mechanical problem with the DMF.

Sounds like a fairy story to me...

Mechanic said its either

1. Gearbox needs tuning to match the remap as its not keeping up with the engine speed after the ECU remap or

2. DMF seems like it is making a noise but not 100% sure...

So decided go with the cheaper option first of getting the gearbox tune done?

Seems like a reasonable idea. I presume they will remove the gearbox tune and not not charge you if there is no improvement. The remap will not do much at low engine rpm anyway is there is little boost at that end. So if the crunches/noises are happening on a light throttle, I would not expect much.
What engine have you got and what mileage? what power before and after the remap? Who did the remap and with what software?

2.0 tdi Ultra model
S tronic auto
Mileage 140,000 miles
Power before 190bhp
Now 225 bhp apparently.
Not sure of the Torque and or Software.
Will ask him tomorrow

The remap guy is coming tomorrow at Midday. Let's see how I get on??

The crunch is clearly heard in every gear change...going up or down especially from D5 to D4 to D3 to D2.

It does seem like engine speed is too fast for the gearbox to recognise which gear it should be in and then forces a gear change hence the crunch I guess

If it was due to the DMF what sort of symptoms would I expect please?
When I rev it on idle..when the revs come back to normal I can hear a rattle which I believe is the DMF

Will keep the thread posted tomorrow

140k is a good mileage. If the software doesn't fix it and the box reset doesn't work I'll take a guess on the Mechatronic unit - don't ask me why. The power increase that you have should not be a big deal.

Software he used is Winholes...
ECU remapped using AUTOTUNER he said...

He couldn't connect to the Gearbox using his Laptop today...it would keep saying connection to TCM lost.

He is coming back tomorrow with a different software version to see if he can connect it

Gone from Bad to worse

The remap guy came to do the Box remap...don't know what the hell he has done...lost communication with TCM...the car won't start...

Parking brake fault..tyre pressure Fault...and please put vehicle into P or N to engage start errors are on the dash ...The gear is stuck in P and not recognising that it is in P

He says he has not flashed the gearbox tcu yet....he he did a Virtual Read on it using Autotuner and now he can't connect to TCM?

ANY IDEAS PLS?
Any one ever come across this before?

Sounds like the TCM has failed. Only option now would be to replace it. I would get the car recovered to a gearbox specialist. Expect an eye watering bill.

If the TCM was fine before the DPF clean and remap, then the mechanic must have done something to upset it.

Where are you located?

Yes I think you.are correct.

I am in Stoke on Trent.

Vehicle has been recovered to.Stoke Audi garage now. Let's see what they say.

Audi specialist garage said the Mechatronic Unit has failed. So recovered it to Audi see what they say.

Audi have it for Diagnostics Friday morning.

Will update with what they say.
I have found a garage name Milta Engineering in Bristol , who fix Mechatronic Units for £1500 plus VAT with a 6 month warranty.

Audi have confirmed the Mechatonics Unit has failed.

All wiring is fine and Voltages are perfect.

Unit priced at £4080 at Audi.
Booked in for Tuesday to get done.
Fingers crossed.
Getting Flywheel done at same time too

Mechatronics got done today.
Car all back up and running.

Flywheel getting done now. Then job done .

Yes. That was rattling so while it's in the garage thought might aswell get it done too.
Hasn't cost me a penny in 3 years of owning it but now all come at once.
