I have a 2005 2.0 140 TDi A3 DSG, I have had a serious knocking noise from the engine, almost from the day I got it in Feb, so took it to a local specialist who said it was the DMF, cost to repair is £930.

I have a warranty from momentum which I got when I bought the car, the specialist phoned them told them the problem expected them to OK the work... they didn't

They sent an inspector out who said its wear and tear and not a mechanical fault, so won't pay out.

does anyone know if this is the correct decision or just the warranty company trying to get out of paying for it?

I am going to tell the garage just to fix it and I will pay for it then try and get the money back ... can anyone help with a solution?

If the flywheel has lost its damping effect due to being seized then i would class this as a mechanical fault. The part has failed to do the job it was designed for. I would say you fault lies with how its been explained to the warranty company. But thats just my opinion.

do you have any technical advice on what to say when I call them on Monday?

Just saw you amended you first post so i was under the impression nobody came out to inspect it. I think your only chance would be to get another opinion on the flywheel as now the company has carried out their own report. They wont back down

yeah gonna do that anyway, I realised it didn't quite read correctly, so amended the punctuation

If you happen to find youself in glasgow (god knows why!) i will happily give you mine
