Econ button on no gas

Just recently bought a 2009 8P and the econ button is always on, I took it Halfords today, they said they was no gas in it & if they filled it and leaked immediately they would charge £50 same as topping up. What’s the best way to get the system checked and does anyone have any aircon places that they can recommend in the Bath/Bristol area?
