hi guys,

my car has recently decided to throw a few fits. I went to put the window down yesterday on the drivers side and noticed it didn't work, the other three (pass front, rear passenger, rear driver) worked on the switch. I just randomly thought the switch was bad. I found a replacement on amazon and got it primed to me today.

Today i replaced the window switch on the drivers side with the new one i got. Sadly the fault is still there. I checked the fusebox (assuming its fuse 22 for interior cabin) and it was fine. I then went round all the other switches to check to see if they were working independently to see if they worked on their own and they also do not work. I can however control them directly from the drivers side, minus the drivers window itself! I've just done a reading with VCDS and it has returned the following fault codes.

PS if you know what the engine/glow issue is too i would be chuffed.

Any thoughts?

Im afraid I can’t help, but have a similar problem whereby all my other windows work, from independent switches and from drivers multi switch pack.

My drivers window intermittently works/doesn’t work, along with my power mirror controls and the central locking on the drivers door (all in sync with each other). I don’t have any fault codes, but a very similar problem!

Following in the hope we can both find the answer! I’m currently at the it must be something wrong with the control module. I checked all the harnesses and connections, fuses today and all seemed fine.

All my central locking and mirrors work fine. Seems to be a strange electrical issue.

Is there any way it could be the window regulator? Mine went but it did still move on the switch, it just had a badly frayed wire which ruined it.

It's only around 20 quid and a couple of hours work.

I don’t think it is, as you’d hear the motor. I also can’t pop the windows down from the other independent switches on each door.

Hi, I would take the door card off and check the loom for breaks were it comes out of the door in the rubber cover into the car.
Its well known that these wires can bend and chaff, or try moving the wiring in the rubber cover while operating the switch.
With the door card off, and remove the door module and then you can pull up the window, and put the module back just to secure.

4 wires had snapped and 2 are damaged on the drivers side loom. Looms out the car now and hopefully should be an easy fix tomorrow!

Glad to hear you found it, they can be a problem with age. The wire does not stand up very well.
I repaired my boot wiring, but cut it out and replaced with silicone wire that is more flexable, if my door loom breaks I would do the same.
You only need to replace the part where it get lots of flexing.
BTW what year is your car?

All fixed, wires were pretty corroded so had to strip them back even further. Reenforced a few cracked but not broken wires with 2 layers of heat shrink. All other wires were stripped back and rewired and soldered together with 2 layers of shrink wrap.

If anyone has the same issue, it was the Orange/Green, Red/Grey, Red/Yellow wires that broke.

Thread can be closed now :)

Any pics for guidance?
None sorry mate.

Steps to follow are as follows;

1. Remove door card
2. Remove speaker
3. Remove Electric Window Modue
4. Unclip the inner door wiring plastic lugs (green)
5. Unclip wing mirror door clips (black, they run along the speaker
6. Optional task - Remove window frame (made life easier to unplug the actuator from the door, due to unusual mounting clip. Not required if you have small hands and arms)
7. Unplug the wiring harness from door
8. Unplug the electrical connector from the chassis side ( clip to remove is on the side facing the hinges in the middle).
9. Feed the harness out of the drivers door, pulling from the chassis side carefully.
10. remove some of the automotive tape from the silicone shield and look at the damaged wiring and repair by soldering and heat shrinking.

All in all, should take about 2.5h max.
