Hi all,

Our car is a 54 plate A3 1.6 Fsi with 86k, and we do about 5000 miles a year, with a mix of town driving and motorway miles.

For the past two years, the engine warning light has come on sporadically - sometimes every few months, then we won't see it again for say 9 months...

We then take it to our local independant who runs it through the computer, and it comes back with the following 5 faults:

17443 - Sensor for NOx (G295)
P1035 - 008 - Signal Implausable

17441 - Sensor for NOx (G295)
P1033 - 002 - Signal too Low - Intermittent

16575 - Fuel Pressure Sensor (G247)
P0191 - 002 - Implausable Signal - Intermittent

18359 - Radiator Fan 2 (V177)
P1951 - 002 - Movement Restricted/Jammed - Intermittent

18528 - Post-Catalyst Oxygen (Lamda) Sensor Correction; Bank 1
P2096 - 002 - Too Lean - MIL ON

Our mechanic has said that he could replace the NOx sensor and Fuel Pressure Sensor (I think), and it would cost us nearly £500, but he says that this may not 'fix' the engine warning light coming back on.

I've also taken it to an auto-electrician, who seems to be of the same opinion as our mechanic, in that these fault codes don't point to anything specific, and we'd just be wasting our money replacing parts that may not need replacing (car has been running fine apart from the coil pack going bust).

So I was just wondering if any of you knowledgable people know of a similar issue with any VAG motors?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

So the engine warning light as come back on a couple of times since posting this (same fault codes) :disappointed:

Our mechanic (local independent) said that we might be best going to Audi and getting them to identify the fault(s), and he said they would be able to tell us 'for definite' what part(s) need replacing/fixing.....

Are Audi able to identify faults with more conviction that independent garages?

Thanks for any help/advice!

The faults shown are most probably the same as an Audi dealer would detect. The skill is interpretating what the codes mean together. There are few bods on this forum who are clever at this but not me unfortunately. Hopefully someone will post there knowledge soon.

Well it would appear this is a common fault with this engine from that year :-(

Specifically the Nitrogen Oxide Sensor or NOx sensor.

Am trying to source a second hand one as Audi want £523 for one, and will report back when/if it fixes it

OE quality Lambda sensors should be under a £100 each. I would shop around for one and fit it yourself. Don't buy a used one, they have a finite life.

Don't think it's a Lamda Sensor I need.

The NOx sensor on circa 2004 1.6 fsi's seem to be £150-£200 for a second hand one or like I said £500 for new :-(

Audi apparently thought they'd try out this system on these particular engines, but the NOx sensors from that era (2004) let in condensation which resulted in the part failing. In later models (2007/2008 onwards they rectified the part. (Part No. 03C 907 807 D)*

Already had a new Lamda sensor fitted 18 months ago in an attempt to fix fault.

*Found out after MANY hours reading up on it, from people far more knowledgeable than me!

Just had a read up on this. The same problem afflicts other 1.6fsi's across the VAG range. It is the pre cat Lambda or even an ecu mis-reading the Lambda results. Independent VAG specialists must have seen this problem many times in recent times so I suggest you ask their advice before you change things willy nilly.
