Hi guys,

Need some help with what engine I've got...
My car had an engine swap before my ownership, I believe its not the same code engine but I am not sure and need to find out.
The sticker in my boot says its a BMN engine 170 bhp 2.0tdi. I believe it may have had a BKD 140 swap.

Is there anywhere on the engine or parts I can locate its actual code, I have been under the bonnet today but cannot find anything but I've taken some photos of codes on the belt and vac pump.
I do have this code off the tandem vacuum pump 03G145209, I know this fits a BKD engine from eBay searching but can't relate it back to a BMN but I really don't know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Just using the cylinder head cover part code it refers to a BMN engine code.
03G 103 469 R = BKD,AZV
03G 103 469 AA = BMN,BUY

Your V5C should've been updated accordingly if an engine swap has taken place.
Hi Chris,

Surely it's a BMN then as per factory, as that cover doesn't cross over with any other engine. Hmmm, it was a reputable garage I took it too with some boost leaks who told me it was a different engine but I cannot remember which one they said and they have no record either...
I will check my V5 later today, (packed away from recent house move).

Log book says BMN

03G 103 308C, I got this number off the cylinder head but typical both BKD and BMN share this part.

Any other ideas how I can be 100% sure?

Thanks

The code should be stamped somewhere on the engine (also the engine number, which normally starts with the letters of the engine code)... I say somewhere because it's something of a movable feast. Very often it used to be that there was a little tab somewhere up the top end (attached to the rocker/cylinder head cover), it might be worth lifting off the plastic to see if there's something there; I have a suspicion though, that markings up top might not be present on later model engines, because so much of that is shared between types. Another possibility is on the end of the block somewhere above the gearbox.

Does the cambelt have a plastic top cover because there's usually a sticker with the 3 digit engine code on there?

Following post and curious about why you suspect ur engine has been changed out .
