Hi Guys, hope some of you lovely folk can answer my questions please.

So my car is a 1.4tfsi and I have reached out to a company called Celtic Tuning and they have quoted £295 to remap my engine to 185bhp from 147bhp.

Will this void my warranty with Audi ?

How will this effect my MPG? I currently get around 55-60 mpg.

Will I noticed the increased BHP as I currently already think the car is quite nippy.

is it reverseable?

Will it effect the emmissons (MOT) ?

Has anyone had this done to their 1.4tfsi and what are you thoughts ?

Thanks guys.

Will it avoid the warranty? Yes if you have engine troubles

MPG? Depends how you drive. But increased power may make you use the power more, so less mpg as a result.

Will you notice the extra 38 BHP? Yes. It's a quarter more power than what you currently have.

Is it reversible? Yes, but the TD1 marker will remain, so anything what goes wrong, you'll get short shrift from Audi.

Not sure about the MOT, but would assume you'll be fine.

will it shorten the lifespan of conponents ?

Yes. Maybe not for you, but the next owner down the line may have issues.

Not wanting to put you off tuning your car. Each to their own and I've done it myself years ago. But my S3 engine went pop. Totally standard engine and the car out of warranty.

Audi thankfully replace the engine for free. If the car had been chipped or modified in anyway, Audi would have said no. The bill would have come to over £18,000.

You pays you money you take your chances.

Your mpg will not get worse because the engine produces more torque thus gear changes can be shortened and some have found an improvement in the consumption.
As long as you don't drive it flat out all the time then a remap should not increase a risk in any mechanical failures. If you do cane the car then even one in a standard state of tune will have issues.
Best thing is a tuning box, but really Celtic tuning have answers to your questions on their website https://www.celtictuning.co.uk/faqs

As above. its not what you do its how you drive it. Clearly if you thrash the hell out of a remapped car its going to wear things out quicker than a standard car, but if you try to look after it and be sympathetic it "should" be ok. By this I mean making sure the oil is close to running temperature before you boot it, dont boot it all the time or for lengthy periods, dont do off the line launches. No guarantees though.

Check your PM's please, I have sent you a message...

I very rarely put my foot down tbh, I want the car to last and I always look after my stuff. I love my Audi to bits but it would be nice just knowing I had a little extra power for those rare occasions for when I am not being dads taxi to have a little blast or to get out of a busy junction.

If you rarely put your foot down, and any benefits of the extra power will be few and far between, then what's the point in taking such a risk on your warranty?

If you were going to use the extra power all the time, then I could understand the need / want to tune.

Is your car on PCP? If so you need to check if they allow mods or not. If something did ever go wrong and Audi said `No`, then you could be in serious trouble with the finance company. It's their car at the end of the day.

Not sure you have to boot it all the time to enjoy the extra power. In fact if you boot it all the time it gets boring. Boot it occasionally and it puts a smile on your face every time

It's more about the torque and the drivability not out and out power. This is where some seem to not understand what a remap, or a tuning box brings to a car. I guess those who haven't tried don't know...

Its true there are problems with the clutch on some (but not all) S3, Golf R etc, but the same might not be true on the smaller engine models, Ask the tuner they will know if they have done them before.

If you want to try how it feels get yourself a tuning box. I have one of these.

The cost is 251€ and makes a world of difference. The s-tronic has been fine for the year I have had it installed. Of course I had to remove it for the service last March. But it is 10min job max. And it does not show up as TD1 marker.
The consuption has been the same with or without it, but I don't boot it very often either. But it is nice to know you have enough power if needed.
I also learned from one VAG specialist here in Finland that the 7-speed dry s-tronic can handle the 310Nm torque easily. The had done Skodas with 1.8 TSI with 390Nm with the same gearbox.

I have remapped cars before, so I do know.

But once you get a feel for the extra power / Torque, it's all to easy to use it more of the time.

Maybe you have, I don't. Only when on a long run would I, but then I don't wish to scare my passengers too much....

Hi,
If you have any issues with insurance at all then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.
