ESP Fault see owners manual......

So out of the blue I have just got the dreaded ESP Fault see owners manual......

No tell tale signs or indications that there is an issue with the ABS/ESP until this fault came up on the dash today, very strange.

Anyway after reading the horror stories about the ABS pump I am worried. I will be trying to get the car scanned this week and hopefully it is something else but if not I read somewhere that if your car has been VAG serviced then the cost to replace the pump would be met by VAG, is there any substance to this?

My car is a 57 so within the years where the defective pump was used.

you dont get anything for free at the dealers
well over warrenty aswell just get it scanned for faults and post up here for help
or find a good indi for the work needed.

Well over warranty but only on 55,000 miles with FASH, if they don't sort it I will be voting with my feet and never buying another VAG motor (assuming it is the ABS pump)

Now you mention it the car has struggled starting once or twice and I had to jump start it about 3 months back?!!

My battery would start the car but i got the ESP each time, new battery and no ESP

"One of the pumps has gone from 450 in stock to a waiting list of 500+ in the space of a month. No UK or Europe stock and no prospect of a delivery for at least 3 weeks and that may not fulfil all the back orders. One thing though, this fault is not confined to VW, it affects VAG, Ford (including Mazda) and GM Europe products with Teves Mk60 and 70 ABS/ESP units. The most respected UK repairer of ABS units cannot at present offer a repair-they wish they could as by their own admission, they would make a fortune! I doubt VOSA will be interested, as it is not an MOT failure they will not see it as being a safety issue."

Quite clearly a defective part judging by how many have failed!!

if it is the pump you may get a bit of goodwell but not a full free repair
but it does sound like your battery dieing cell
halfords for a feww batt alt check if not that its the scan needed

The link I posted from the Telegraph suggested it would be done FOC.

Just seen this on eBay

It suggests that if it is the ABS Pump the EPS button will also be illuminated, mine is not....

VAG gave me nothing, theres a repair kit for it thats about £170 now anyway + fitting and brake bleed! I heard that the dealers use the repair kit now too anyway!

Id put money in it being the G201 sensor fault… but the good thing is that there is a cheap repair kit thats even cheaper than having a recon abs pump

Was your ESP button illuminated too?

Just to confirm this is not an MOT failure is it?

Can't see that showing anything other than volts.You need a proper test, anywhere can do it that sells batterys.But if it fails, do some searching of your own

depending on age ,mileage and service history audi should change the pump for free as it is now classed as a safety issue if it is the g201 sensor

So I wasn't going crazy.

2007 car, Full Service History and on 55,000 miles

So had it scanned and it is the G201 fault.

Also came up with a brake fault, a transmission fault and an engine fault, the guy reckons they are all link to the brake pressure sensor.

He cleared the faults but they just came back up.

So where do I go from here? Do I try to pursue VAG to do it or to I buy the kit from eBay?

How much is the Labour?

i would pursue vag , remind them that if it was a seat they would do this free of charge ,they dont even charge for the diagnostic test .
im 100% sure of this as a close freind of mine bought a 07 plate seat leon fr , waited till log book come back in his name then took it to barnsley seat dealer (already tested it for the sensor fault ourselves) told them he had a light on the dash ,they booked it in for a diagnostic test which come up with the g201 sensor ,they rang him back and asked him to call back in with the log book and service history ,which they photo copied for warranty purposes . they kept the car for 2 days whilst they ordered a new pump . (checked and whole unit had been replaced.)

They said the kit from Audi is £186, if Audi are using these kits themselves then maybe I should stand a chance of the goodwill etc as it's no longer £1500?

Its worth a go but they may not be willing to do sod all until they do a diagnostic for themselves, then you run the risk of them not honouring the full goodwill, you'd probably need to speak to them and ask what the chances of having it done for free or with a certain % off. Whats your service history like? Full Audi, all on time?

Service history is full Audi minus 1 which was done by a VAG specialist (AudiVWcentre) where I bought the car from in 2012, that was on 28,000 miles, the car is now on 57,000 is 7 years old and has had 4 services using Longlife, 3 @ Audi and 1 @ the specialist

as long as its foliowing the selected regime it should be fine mate, give them a call get booked in to discuss it, the audi price will be £186 for the kit plus a brake bleed £59 (on the fixed price thing iirc) plus a few hours labour at considerably more than the Indy.. maybe £100 + VAT? even if they knocked 30% off as goodwill (if they won't do it for free) then its probably still cheaper at the indy lol.

I have found examples of folk who have had this resolved under 100% 'goodwill'.

I have fired off emails to two local dealers and will see what they come back with, I honestly feel this should be done FOC, I will keep this updated!

So predictably Audi Salisbury wanted to charge me for diagnostics first at wait for it.......... £116!!!!!

They then said they would look at goodwill but no promises of course!

They quoted me £600 + the diagnostic so a total of £716, WOW and that is using the repair kit!

I'd rather not run the risk of not getting the goodwill so I think I am just going to get the Indy to do it, I have found the repair kit for £160 delivered so it will just be the labour and fluid on top.

Eeek, typical though the labour charge is double though, they usually refund the diagnostic cos though if they get the work off you, but you'd still need 40% goodwill to get to the indy price though! Still a good outcome!
