At the weekend we had a new Helix organic clutch fitted to a TTS and it is juddering excessively. The car has travelled over 400 miles since in mixed driving and it does not seem to be getting any better. So much so that reversing is almost impossible.

So what are your experiences with either the Helix or Sachs as I need to get a clutch organised for my S3 as well. However, I am quite wary now as this is ruining the driving pleasure of the TTS.

In addition, the pedal is quite heavy compared to standard on the Helix and so which brands of clutch will have much less judder to begin with and also feel nearer to standard regarding pedal pressure?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Hi there.

Is that the Helix paddle clutch?

If so it's unlikely to improve as paddle clutches really do behave like switches and don't cope with being slipped very well.

My choice for the manual box was a Spec Stg3+ full face carbon metallic clutch which was way better than any paddle clutch I'd had before.

The Sachs organic is generally a very good clutch and very street friendly as well.

No, the clutch is the Helix organic and it is now spoiling the car. Did your Sachs judder to begin with and did it eventually feel oem apart from the heavier pedal?

Sachs was exactly the same to start with. Lasted for over 1000 miles of town driving until it died down.

Still judders at times now, would possibly go spec clutch next time as the Sachs doesn't fill you with confidence

Had a helix organic fitted by AKS 2 weeks ago, done 250 miles since then and no complaints. No juddering at all, really smooth, precise gear changes. The pedal is a bit stiffer than stock but this is to be expected from a stronger clutch

Ok....just wondered if it was the paddle type.

The Sachs smelt a bit for the first few hundred miles but never felt "grabby".....much like the stock clutch but slightly heavier.

Thanks for your reply.
So you never had any judder with the Sachs when new?
I had a feel of a Sachs pedal yesterday at Awesome. Whilst I did not drive the car, it felt slightly less springy than the Helix. As I pushed it to the floor and then back up again.

Never had a problem with it to be honest.

The only thing you couldn't do was lots of drag starts but that's the same with all organic clutches.

It did well up till finally giving up at 440lbs on the first big turbo.

Just give it slightly more revs and come off the pedal slightly faster

Who fitted it?

Did the bleed the system correctly, as It shouldn't judder that much

Tried all sorts of things. None of them really worked when I was crawling in slow traffic on the M6.

It was fitted by a very reputable well know company and so it must be faulty parts.

Oh crawling in traffic? Yeah you tend to find any uprated clutch is grabby when hot especially in traffic

Clutch replaced yesterday. This one seems much better. Only a slight bit of judder which reduced on the way home. I looked at the clutch plate taken off and there were big areas that had not been touching the pressure plates and that had been after over 800 miles so faulty components.

Good to hear.

Did you source the kit from Aks?

My helix organic fitted by Aks is spot on.. a little heavier than normal, but no judder.. a bit grippy if i dont quite do it smoothly in traffic but generally great.

Hey Prt57,

I'm having the same problem. Recently bought a Helix Organic clutch for my Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo because everyone on the forum says it's without juddering.

I had the clutch replaced and it had the worst judder, just making it really hard to manouvre. The mechanic said try braking it in first and see if the juddering will decrease.

Broke the care in -> 800km in B roads and city/village and 300km highway... Juddering became slightly less, but still very badly...

So went back to garage and had a new flywheel placed, because i assumed that must be the problem. The garage has done everything propperly. Guess what? Still juddering badly!!

I'm starting to give up hope cause i've spend alot of money on something that makes me not wanna drive my car anymore...

I'm wondering if my Helix clutch might be a production fault. Did you have any contact with Helix about your clutch?

Trying to find out what to do...

I think you need to talk to where you sourced the clutch from and take it from there.
With our Helix Clutches we dealt with AKS where we had bought them from. I would suggest you did not buy it from them as they are VAG specialists.
