The cooling fan seems to be running constantly, right from a cold start. Ideas please on what I'm looking for, and where. I'm guessing a failed temp sender. 53 plate 2.0 fsi.

On my 2.5tdi its meant to cos it feathers under pressure unless the temp rises. You should be able to stop it with a rolled up newspaper:if not the coupling is faulty and it will need replacing

The alternative is an electrically driven fan which is controlled from a switch in the rad .If that is stuck on then the switch is U/S

On my A6 the electric fan runs at half speed all the time the AC is on (I can't remember if the A4 did or not...) .... trying turning the AC off - ECON on - and see if the fan stops, it may well.

You should be able to find the switch by tracing the cables from the motor.Usually screwed into the back of the rad .Seems unusual for the switch to fail stuck on but it can be confirmed if you disconnect the wires and that stops the fan
