Hi there any help would be fantastic, I recently bought a 2001 s3 with faulty fuel gauge. I've replaced both sender units and it's still got a mind of its own. The wires look fine and there's equal amounts of fuel in either side of the tank. Please people give me a point in the right direction.

I had similar issues way back in my S3, I can't recall if it was sender's or cluster, but it was more common on the TT iirc, but yes it was a known issue.

Probably your crappy cluster, at that age it was common fault. iirc the stepper motors often failed on the gauges, at least that was one issue. I had loads of similar faults on my A3 2001. Check the sensor readings in vagcom or similar and compare to cluster
