Car is coming up on 10 months old, just over 7000 miles, asking for oil change in 20 odd days - I had presumed I would get it serviced at a year old and the oil would be changed then - is it normal for it to ask for oil change in under a year??

With your mileage it should be on fixed servicing - annual services.
If it was on flexible then it would be much longer before you get the warnings. So I suspect that your car is on fixed, but was initially setup some time before you got the vehicle.

Depends on how your car has been driven I think. Mine asked for it around the same mileage
