So I recently went stage 1 on my s3 and of course the clutch starting slipping ( I knew this would happen), the tuning company said they would replace it with a clutch of my choice but were very expensive, so decided to contact my local vag specialist and local clutch specialist. Now both were well priced for fitting a stock clutch etc, but both were not keen on fitting a Sachs organic as I requested!!
Has anyone else experienced this when uprating their clutch with their local garages??

I would go to a vag specialist who deals with tuned cars as they will be familiar with the uprated components. Depends where you are in the U.K. but no issues with either Awesome GTI tuning or AKS tuning. However, AKS would suggest Helix rather than Sachs. Many people on the TFSI forum rate Helix higher than Sachs. The new kid on the block are RTS. I was speaking to the product manager yesterday who said that Awesome have fitted about 40 of these clutches recently with excellent feedback.

The problem with the supply or fit of any part thats not VAG is the warranty. The usual argument from the supplier is yes it failed and it was down to the fitter , the fitter will say if you supplied the part We can't guarantee it and then there is the tuned engine that they were told was stg1 and is really stg2+.....you get the idea. :)

I can speak from experience with AKS that after fitting a Helix clutch that had a major issue there was no problem after all regarding warranty as it was changed at the next potential fitting date no questions asked. That is the sort of customer service that makes me use the company again.

Yes but he had been to local VAG specialist, not a tuning shop.

Im currently kind of in the same situation, Stage 1 with Downpipe and now need a new clutch. Been looking around at different clutches and the prices vary a lot.

Are you just changing the clutch or the flywheel also? Staying with Duel mass or going single?

A lot of smf flywheels give a lot of rattle. The RTS smf flywheel is a similar weight to the standard dmf. The idea of this is to remove the ratttle.

I currently have the Spec Stg2+ and Spec SMF - it’s a horrible setup.

I’m going RTS and SMF once they get my order right (from Aussie). I hope I don’t regret the SMF again.

Want to change flywheel but keep it dmf seems to make sense imo and slave cylinder also, I’ve priced this up myself as was going to supply the parts so I feel I’m getting the parts at the best price, and quoted labour is around £350 so just over 1k all in

Unfortunately down here in devon there aren’t many vag specialists with tuned car experience it seems which is a little frustrating.
Tbh I’m not completely set on a Sachs it just seemed they had a lot of positive feedback from users so seemed the right choice.

I had the helix uprated clutch and dmf fitted to my old TTS all done at Akstuning. Was around £1200 but customer service was great and woukd happily use them again. They can do supply only if you needed.

There is also Tsr performance in Bridgwater Rob is the owner and they know there stuff. There is also retro resus in Bridgwater the chap use to be the workshop manager for Tsr performance which another forum member recommended to me definitely both worth a phone call. Only downside is they are both pretty busy. Good luck
