Hi all,

New to this forum so not a lot of knowledge :p. i have an Audi a3 2.0TDi DSG 3 door on a 06 plate. The car was only used for doing long journeys + as a spare car sorta thing. The car has now been parked up in my friends garage for the pass 6-7months as i was given a company car around the same time and wasn't enough space on the drive + tax was about to run out.

A family member now wants to take it off my hands as he can now insure it so went to start it the other day however battery is dead ( assumed this anyway ). I cant get into the car to jump start it as the drivers door wont open. I have tried putting the key in the drivers door and opening manually however nothing happens. The passenger door doesn't have a key slot and neither does the boot so i cant get into the car. I have also tried spraying some wd40 inside the key hole and a neighbour suggested using a hair drier on around the door lock however still no joy. I've searched on here and cant really find anything that matches my situation. Can anyone shed some light on any other options? As my last result is to break the window and get it replaced.

Thanks

As you say if you stick the key in the door lock you should be able to unlock the car and then use the handle to open the door .

If this doesn't work then there must be a fault with the machanical part of the lock

Also worth noting I have had the door seals stick on me so you think the door is still locked when in actual fact the door is just stuck

Hi, i am when i stick the key in the lock and turn the key to open it and pull the handle. Still nothing happens. I also had a friend bang the door incase infact it was open but just stick shut however no result. The door was working perfectly before. Once i get into the cabin to pop the bonnet i can just start it.

Hi I had a similar problem on my s3 it sounds like you've got a problem with your door lock possibly seized due to always opening with the fob I ended up jacking the car up and putting the positive lead of the battery charger onto the large power terminal on the starter motor and the earth lead of the charger onto a good earth on the body and charging the battery like this it didn't take long before I had enough power to unlock the doors with the fob

Im guessing there a lower engine cover/sump shield cover i would need to take off, t20 screws im guessing? I have a jump pack will that do? Or will i have togo buy a battery charger? Will try this during the week. Thanks alot dusty!

you should be able to use the jump pack. Ive had to do similar tricks over the years to get into cars for customers.
theres also a way of getting the windows to power up from underneath so you just use a rod down the side of the door to hit the switch but im not going to explain that on a public forum.

Ok, ill try use a jump pack, will update if it works or not!, hhaa a friend of mine told me about that way! Yeah i wouldnt neither you never know what kinda people are looting around

Im guessing the alternator is on the driver side of the engine bay?

Why not just use your breakdown cover if you have any. Saves all the messing around. Obviously you will have to provide documents to show you are the owner.

Hi a jump pack will be fine just make sure your connections are good onto the starter be careful not to touch the positive lead to earth and you should be good, regarding the under tray I'm not sure on screw sizes as I'm an 8l owner I only ventured into the 8p section to check out westys new ride

Take out breakdown cover, wait 2 weeks, call them out? :)

Torx sizes should be T25 (8 of them) and T27 (3 of them). If I remember correctly!

Right, took off the under cover ! Located the alternator put the positive lead on it and earth on a couple of things, still nothing?

I would connect to the starter rather than the alternator as the starter has a direct feed from the battery

I ment starter motor sorry, called a audi specialist out should be here tomorrow so hopefully he can sort it.

Hi any chance you can help with this if it’s possible on an a2 as I have the bonnet off but can’t get in car as deadlocked and key turns in door but nothing happens.
