benw123 said:Filled up tonight at Hatfield Tesco which was at £1.04p for diesel (although like jojo I had one of those nice 5p off vouchers so 99p for now!).
As for the previous discussion in this thread about taking action, I think boycotts are ineffective, even if it is Esso and BP. We need to go back to the fuel protests we saw in 2000. Strangely, the cost of fuel has rocketed since then but where have the haulage operators and road lobbyists gone?
Mate Running on veg oil carries the same penalties as running on red diesel !! The customs deem that You are simply dodging the duties that must be paid for fuel used for road going vehicles. So if You get dipped at one of the increasing number of roadside check points then You are in the crap !!unkle said:Ive started looking into running a diesel car partially on old vegetable oil, seems stupidly simple....
Geordie Mike said:No, you really are meant to declare how much old vegetable oil you use and pay the appropriate duty. Believe it or not, that's the law... Now how that sits with trying to reduce your carbon footprint and encouranging people to use more sustainable types of fuel is beyond me.
AndyMac said:But how can they tax something as a per centage of it's value, when it has no value?
unkle said:As I understand it, your allowed 2500 litres before you have to pay tax on the stuff, thats from spending an evening on the Net looking at websites, now of course the internet isnt always 100% accurate so take that with a pinch of salt, for most people using a 75% diesel / 25% veg oil mix thats more than enough for a year, the starting upcosts are minimal, some jerry cans, filters etc assuming your getting oil from a chippie or restaurant.
Guess it needs some serious consideration and research.
Because its Labour and they love nothing more than taxing us to death so they can throw our money away...

There's a guy at work with me and he has installed a full blown conversion on his Golf GT TDi. He has a seperate tank for the veg oil, and he has it all wired up to a switch. I was speaking to him recently, and he said that you have to either heat up the veg oil before it reaches the injectors, using possibly an additional glow plug maybe, to thin the oil down. He has it wired, so that he only switches to veg oil when the engine is up to temperature.
He did say however that before he installed the conversion, he was running his car on a mixture in the one tank, but using clean bottled veg oil from the supermarket, instead of used veg oil from the chippy.
There's loads of info out there on the web on this :icon_thumright:
****** hell Mate You are hard work arent You !!!! Lets start again ?? You are dodging the duty on the full price diesel by putting veg oil in the tank !! So therefore if You get dipped and are found to be using veg oil You are up **** creek !! Just as You would be if caught using red diesel !AndyMac said:No I mean how can they work out what the tax is, when the product has no value? They can't apply a per centage so is it just a flat fee per litre?

It has nothing to do with what the veg oil is worth ist the full pound of flesh You are not paying by using the said oil which creates the offence !
Copy and pasted from another site.
I only ever fill up at either Tesco's for diesel or Shell for V-power or normal unleaded.
Maybe this would work? Had it in an e-mail today.
We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 1 a litre. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can really work.
Please read it and join in!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the
idea:
For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!
Now, don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!
I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..
THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE
It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso
