Hi.
Do any of you use fuel additives on your diesel B8?

I'm thinking about using one just before the service on my 3.0TDI soon. I've heard good things about BG244 and also the Forte products, amongst others.

Any experiences would be great. Performance, economy, general running etc.

Thanks
Chris

Apart from the 2 stroke oil I add every time I fill up,I add 250mL of oil every time I fill up which works out to around 0.5%.
There is a branch of CES UK just down the road from me who sell everything in the autosessive catalogue. So 5L is less than £15 which is enough for 20 tanks of fuel which lasts me around 6 months with the oil that goes in the wifes car as well.

I find the engine runs quieter and smoother, I wouldn't add it if I had a DPF.
Used it in the wifes Yaris for years with no issues.
Every now and then when visiting the pod or other times when it maybe needs a bit more juice I give it a shot of Miilers Ecomax

Karl.

Thanks for the info.
I still have my DPF so would you advise to stay away from all additives or just the 2 stroke oil?

Normal additives like Forte, Millers etc that you add every now and then won't be an issue. Regularly adding 2 stroke with a DPF is not what I would do. Only started adding it when I had the DPF removed, the wifes Yaris is a 2005 so has no DPF.

Have you had any experience with BG244?
I assume this is something you would just add every 6 months or so.

The MSDS for it is here

http://www.jackbyrne.info/Msds PDF/bg-244 for diesel.pdf

10-30% of it is 2-ethylhexyl nitrate a Cetane improver

https://www.lubrizol.com/FuelAdditives/Products/PureCetaneImprover.pdf

15-40% is mineral spirits or white spirit , 15-40% is petroleum distillates ,probably something similar to petol.

You can add a certain amount of petrol to diesel, and it's done regularly in colder countries to winterise the diesel, this would also clean the fuel system out.
So adding this to the fuel tank is bound to produce an immediate improvement as there is a good deal of cetane improver so will be like running on V power plus plus .
To get the cleaning effect 125ml of white spirit and 125ml of petrol would probably do much the same mixed with a tank full of diesel.

I think most diesel system cleaners are similar.

I would be intrested to know what Diesel Treatments people are using as I did put cleaner in my old petrol A4 every 5 or six months ...

I use 2-stroke oil in my 3.0TDi and still have my DPF. I do only use a low soot 2-stroke JASO-FC.

I would have thought the derv was sufficient lubrication for the pump? Why add 2 stroke oil?

Supposedly sulphur acts as a lubricant and modern diesel fuel (post 2006) had to have lower sulphur levels. All I know is IMO my engine runs quieter with the two stroke.
