Gear stick 1999 A3?

Would this gear gator/knob/surround fit a 1999 A3 1.9 TDI?

Need a new gear knob etc to repace my crappy moulded one!

Guess what it doesnt fit!

Guess its from a 2000 + A3 and the gear gator
surrounds must be different sizes.

Gutted!

Yup, the surround is different, I ended up just changing the knob.

What about if i bought a new chrome surround from eBay and trapped the
material under the surround & screwed it in?

I was after that item too. Mailed him first though, its off a 2001 i think. Just to let you know the score.

Well its all fitted and looks much better apart from it doesnt quite clip in to the existing area.

If there is such thing as a pre 2000 chrome surround, then i can screw it over the top and would be fine.
