Gearbox issues

Hi sorry if this is the wrong place or been spoken about before but I’m after some advice. I have a 1.9tdi 2003 avant b6 Audi 6 speed manual with the AVF engine. I’ve been told my gearbox is on its way out so I was just gunna buy a second hand gear box. I looked at my gearbox code and it’s a GBA the issue is I can’t find GBA gearboxes second hand it’s like gold dust lol. My question is would a FYA gear box fit or do I definitely need to get the GBA one?. Thanks for any help.

Personally I'd get it cracked open and fixed, plenty of specialists about.

I think I will do. I did only pay 300 quid for the car and it’s been great for the year I’ve owned it apart from this issue It whines higher the rpm gets if that makes sense. I’m pretty clueless when it comes to cars. I did think it was my throw out bearing in my clutch at first.

Sounds like a bearing, could be low oil also. How many miles?
