Hi all,

Basically I am about to replace the speakers on my A4 B6 Cabriolet, but I would like to get a few things confirmed before I go and spend all that money.

This is what I gathered from the internet.
- Front and rear speakers are 6.5" (165mm)
- Tweeters are 1" (25mm)
- Crossovers are in the doorcards

Now my questions are...
- Are the above correct?
- What is the maximum depth of front speakers can I fit? Or do I need an MDF ring to pad it out?
- What is the maximum size of crossovers can I fit without modding?

The headunit is a standard RNS-E, and speakers are not Bose, by the way.

Thanks.

Yes your info is correct. You will need adapters, 2 x 18mm MDF rings per speaker, with a bigger 9mm MDF mounting ring behind to allow the rings to screw to the door using the original bolt holes. Just use the original speaker as a template and screw these to the 18mm rings. You'll also need some Dynamat to even out the inner doorskin to form a perfect seal as it's not completely flat. Depth is not a problem as you have 45mm with the rings plus there is a hole in the door skin for the magnet. There is plenty of room for a decent xover, and rewiring through the A pillar is almost impossible. You should also get some spare pop fasterners (approx 6 in total) as these are designed to break on removal:
