Hey all,

My 2019 Audi S3 8V SportBack is due for a
- Haldex Service
- Front Brake Pad Change
- Brake Fluid Change

Audi have quoted £424 for all three including parts and labour.

Does that sound right? Having spoken to a few mechanics, it seems third party mechanics can do the job at a lower cost, however have explained that it won’t be recorded on the ‘Audi Database’ for example.

What route is best to take?

Thanks

Naz

Doesn’t seem too bad considering Audi prices.

or try and find a recommended vag specialist in your area. I reckon you’d get it down to about 250-350.

My dealer charges £99 for haldex oil change and £99 for BFC (but would do it for £69) if you need these on record for warranty. So £220 for front pads. If you have a few simple tools and a jack, Carparts4less will deliver a set of Brembo pads to your door for under £70 and I don't see any advantage of having this on the Audi history. If you aren't a slave to a warranty, you can buy a Haldex service kit and do a proper job yourself, including cleaning the filter for £40

Audi dont necessarily clean the haldex oil filter which is an essential part of the haldex service. Why? God knows, but that's how it is. An independent garage will do this if you ask. The audi garage might but many dont and refuse to.
If you have an extended warranty and go for work at any none audi garage then if something goes wrong with anything remotely connected to the work done then Audi will blame the other garage. Hence the "slave to a warranty" as mentioned above.
Not being recorded on the electronic database doesnt mean anything really, provided you keep any tickets you still have the full history by combining both.

Tried my locals, two quoting £440 another quoting £460.

I wish I could do the work myself and be comfortable with what I’ve done, unfortunately im not that hands on

plus the car has a years warranty left so incase anything went wrong, I wouldn’t want to give audi a chance to blame it on me

Yeah I’ve heard about the filter/gauge that Audis don’t clean?! And yes the car has a years warranty left on it.

having compared a few of the local places, it seems the audi price is reasonable and waiting for a call back from the service advisor to ask if the gauge/filter will/can be cleaned….
Is the £440 including an oil service as well?
that’s right

Yes! Just spoken to my audi service advisor and he said the same, that they don’t clean the gauge/pump/filter whatever it’s called. But my local VAG specialist confirmed all parts used is original parts, logged on audi database (so no chance of audi lashing back if something goes wrong) + they clean that additional part.. guess they’re the best bet.

I wouldn't bank on that one if your pump fails and non-Audi dealership spanners have touched it.

It gets my goat that I had a 2 year inspection and minor service agreement with Audi but "this didn't include Haldex service or BFC" , wanted to charge extra for these and they "needed" to do it if I wanted to take out an All In service and warranty agreement for years 6&7.
I did get a new set of spark plugs out of the 2 year service deal, but only because I got it in writing from the service receptionist when I signed up for the plan, and still had to initiate a firm conversation to have them changed on the last service.

Absolutely right. The only 100% sure way of doing the job right without affecting your warranty it is to get Audi to do the service, then get an indie to repeat the work but do it properly and not tell Audi about it. Complete farce but that's it, unfortunately.

Exactly what I do. Audi main dealer for all the official stamps when they are recomended and then awesome gti in manchester for in-between services such as haldex and diff oil changes.

£440 including a service is not bad for dealer.
It’s about £100 for haldex
Was about £80 for brake fluid change for me
So £260 for brake pads fitted and service is cheap for dealer prices.

It came in ages ago that you can get your car serviced anywhere as long as they’re vat registered, use oem parts and preserve warranty.

I'm sorry but no. They might claim to do this but if something major and expensive goes wrong that you try to claim under warranty you may be in for a shock. I have first hand experience of this, as do others.
