Hi guys,

was wondering if anyone can recommend a garage within west yorkshire, front wheels are spinning up - rear are not kicking in, checked fuses which appear fine. Car has had a new front diff. I have read it may be the pump? but would rather take it somewhere reputable.

thanks in advance

Most likely blocked filter and pump, replace pump filter and oil.

Have you had it scanned for codes? That should point the way to what's wrong and prevent any unnecessary expense :)

Mine was spinning front wheels at 60mph, scary.

The fault was the haldex oil filter was blocked allowing the pump to gunge up and not be able to engage so no pressure to engage rear wheels when called for.

Audi do not see the filter as a serviceable part so no good going to the dealers.

Haldex oil and filter should be changed every 40k to keep the pump from going.

Oil around 60 quid, only a litre or so, filter around 40. Pump around 190-200 if gone. Service is doable on axle stands and needs vcds to run the pump to push filter out if it still operates and a pressure pump to get the oil in as the filler hole is right up under the car so you can’t pour oil in

If this doesn’t fix it the controller is next on the list 500-1000 if you get the latest from Awesome.

Oh wow does seem scary what power is yours rubbing?

The website highlighter above seems very reasonable...

When you say the controller do you mean the haldex ecu?

Am I correct in saying the 8p comes with a gen 2 haldex?

Mines 320-350 I think not measured yet

The haldex guys really know their stuff

The haldex controller is screwed to the side of the haldex diff and can get water damage to the controller inside if the seal looks damaged or is loose - if this looks sound then it’s the pump

I think it’s gen2 for the 8p, there is an upgraded controller available if it’s knackered

A pre facelift uses a gen 2 haldex and a facelift uses a gen 4 haldex.

thanks for the info, yes that is indeed pricey!

i have the car booked in for diagnostics, hopefully its not the ecu and i can get away with a filter and pump change!

i am gonna pull the 4wd fuse i think its fuse 19 in the dash and plug it back after a drive, iv'e read this has worked for some..

Just had mine replaced on my recently purchased FL S3. The car has a full Audi service history but as @mechanic69 has said above, they don't see the filter as a serviceable part, which for the sake of £40 is a bit silly. This eventually blocks and leads to a faulty pump. Just add a 1.5hr rate to the costs below and you're about there for how much a complete replacement would be. A good Audi specialist would change this filter as standard with a haldex service.

Haldex Filter = £39.58
Haldex Pump = £224.55
Haldex Oil = £33.82

Hope this helps

hi mate,

having similar issues with my S3 8P, spinning through gears pushing it hard and suspecting its a haldex issue. car doesnt feel draggy or anything like that and no errors or lights on dash... is there any way to differentiate the issue or any tell tale signs when its the expensive controller that has faulted?

hoping its just a filter or possibly the pump but unsure...

thanks

This error code may indicate the faulty controller

Other codes are pump

thanks mate,

took motor to German car specialists in Stockport. it was a pump error, so new pump being fitted along with filters and oil change.
£450 all in for the work.
not great at this time of year - but could have been a lot worse.

thanks again for the input

Not a bad price given the parts are best part of 300 quid, hope it sorts it
