I bought my dear little audi with what I thought was a simple issue, a rough idle that I thought could be solved by replacing the injector loom or engine mount. It has now had.....

INJECTOR LOOM
HYDRAULIC ENGINE MOUNT
CAMBELT, TENSIONERS, PULLEYS, WATER PUMP, THERMOSTAT.
TEMPERATURE SENSOR
CAMSHAFT, BEARINGS AND FOLLOWERS, RECONDITIONED INJECTORS.
EGR DELETE.
MAF CHECKED.

it's running a lot better but is still losing power at the bottom end of the rev range, I.e. Below 1800 rpm it's idle is a lot better than it was but still not as smooth as other 1.9tdi engines I have encountered and it has about 5 seconds after it starts where it coughs a little before finding it's rhythm.

Above 1800 it has power with no hesitation up to the red line...it's had a new turbo and a new clutch and dmf but not in my short ownership.

It's been fixed by an audi specialist who have gone out of their way to try and get it sorted... And tried everything.

The only thing that hasn't been changed is the tandem fuel pump. Which doesn't have any leaks.

They say the only thing they can see that's wrong is a value for the injector control which seems to suggest the injectors that are all working appropriately are getting over fuelled possibly by a dodgy remap in its past. They've sent me to a local remapping specialist to get this checked out but I'm spent out and stressed out and don't know what to do.

Any help is much appreciated...I am based in deepest darkest west Wales. The car has done 150k by the way

Was the temp sensor genuine?
Timing could be out if it's a long time since the cambelt was last changed.

Temp sensor was genuine, and I've asked him about the timing three times now and he says it's spot on done with the proper tool so it can't be out.

I really don't know what to do.

I had this problem or similar problem with my old passat 1.9tdi pd engine. Luckily I have a good friend who runs a car parts shop up the street and he used to be a diagnostic fault finder at vw and Audi and know the cars really well he told me a temp sensor would sort it and it didn't I bought copy's and genuine and still didn't solve my problem he plugged his Vcds in and everything was spot on not fault codes after he erased the ones that where on but as usual the car didn't play up when he was in the car it worked fine. Then it happened again a day later and he told me the wiring from the temp sensor to the ecu will be faulty causing an intermittent fault so I took wires from the ecu straight to the temp sensor and everything was perfect. Have you tried a continuity test from the temp sensor and also from the injectors? Power supply could be less than what is needed but won't flag up a code as there is still power there. Have you done a full Vcds scan?

Fuel filter? My friends AWX had a few issues, he changed injector loom etc. But the fuel filter was the main cause. I put a blacksmoke remap on his car for him as we even thought the map was faulty. For £40 it was worth it for the extra oomph after all.

The garage have scanned it and the only thing that looks odd on it as the value above the injectors, injector control? which is high causing overfueling. When I go back to the garage to get a replacement tandem pump fitted I shall ask about a continuity test.. It can't hurt. :-o

Its had two new fuel filters... And that's not causing the problem. It's going to go for a map and egr delete in December if it isn't fixed before then

I Carnt see the tandem pump on the back of the head sorting anything as the pump is ran of your cam shaft only allowing so much diesel through. If your injectors are over fuelling that could be down to an electrical fault or maybes the car has been mapped before with a really poor map or your injectors have got bigger nozzles on which will require mapping to suit. If I was in your shoes I wouldn't be buying a tandem pump I would get a map put on it. Maybes see someone who does live mapping on a dyno they will be able to see how much it's overfuelling and adjust the map to suit rather than a generic plug and play map

Thank you for the reply...it's booked in for 3 weeks from now to get it mapped. I hope that sorts it. Coz it's such a great car otherwise. :-(

When you say the cam timing is spot on and it's been checked 3 times to the tools..... this is just the starting point for checking the timing , the tools lock all the pulleys in the correct place , however it will still need fine tuning to set the Torsion value, this is a reading taken whilst the engine is running and connected to VCDS.... you aim to get it as close to 0.0 as possible though people have had better results going + or _ 0.1 it only takes the tiniest of adjustment on the cam pulley to alter this value and it can effect things like idle, power or MPG... If the Torsion value hasn't been checked then it's worth doing so...

Lots of info here http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/c...lue-adjustment-on-vw-and-audi-pd-tdi-engines/

I will mention it to him, I have asked about this a number of times... And in the post and video the symptoms are exactly the same. I would love it to be timing, because it might not be such a difficult or expensive fix. Thank you.
