Various Faults on A3 2.0tdi
HI all, new to the forum and owning an Audi.

I am hoping someone can help me out here with advice on whats wrong with my new car that I love apart from the following.

Recently purchased a 2004 A3 2.0tdi with some faults although I only thought she had fault one on purchasing.

1, The open door switches on the driver door is not working so not getting the headlight on alarm when getting out and no puddle lights or door open light (passengers is fine). I assume this is just a lock swap out or is it connected to another fault?

2, Now I assume that the 2 bottons on the driver door for the alarm sensors should light up when you press the buttons. Mine doesn't I dont know but possibly linked to the door lock micro switches?

3, The car has an ipod denison installed but the concert does not seem to see it as a cd changer even when pressing the cd button once or twice.

4, today whilst playing with the climate control it went off as in all the lights on it went out then they came back, also shortly afterwards the radio went off, came back on on second attempt at turning back on.

Before picking her up she had a dead battery which was replaced so dont know if any of the fault codes i got on vag com are related to that but hopefully someone looking at this will now what my problems all relate to.

Thanks in advance for any advice it will greatly appreciated as I want to enjoy driving my Audi even if its not a 2010 model.

i'm no good with diagnostics i'm afraid, but welcome anyways! sorry it's overdue!

Has this car been in an accident? Looks like someones tried to mend it but not very well, the faults are on one side of the car. Id clear all the faults first as they can be sorted codes from before and then run the scan again after a few days.

Now you have a copy of the faults, I'd do as suggested above & clear them all & see what returns. Some of them could have been there for years. I see the software is out of date too VCDS is up to 10.6.3, is yours a genuine lead?

I'd check all the fuses 1st & make sure none of them have been sparking due to bad connection. I'd also make sure all the multiplugs are secure into the Central Electronic module. This is under the drivers side next to the fuse box. Its the module with all the relays & wires going into it. To remove the trim there ar 3 8mm bolts, the light switch needs pushed in and rotated to the right (about 1pm) & then the whole unit can be pulled out, then its just clipped in at the top, a pull will unclip it. There is a red bar that need slid to the side to let the multiplugs come out. Im guessing that as they went out the databus error isnt to much the can signal to the modules but they werent powered hence no communication.

I didnt have time to do the checks mentioned but clared the fault codes whilst I was at work and drove home and tested again.

Re is the lead genuine well it an ebay item

Re accident previous owner said the front driver wing was dented by a trolley in a car park and was beat back out its not to noticable unless you are really looking hard.

When i checked to see if involved in a reported accident came back clean.

I will use the car for a few days and retest.

When I get a chance to check out the other bits n bobs I will but most probably be next weekend.

If the battery has been disconnected then it's likely that the windows and radio will need to be re-synchronised.

Radio will need code number and windows re-set as owner manual

The radio will only need the code if its swopped to a different car, it reads the cars VIN number.

I am assuming the reason the 2 alarm buttons on the drivers door do not work is because the door thinks it is shut all the time due to the faulty microswitches in the lock.

Does this seem right to you guys?


Regarding my Climate Control I am pleased/embarassed to say I was being a newbie and turned it off by taking the - down as far as it would go on the fan. RTFM!

Although the + for the fan does not work at all, flick it on auto and the fan will blow as required so can live with this as long as it does not damage anything.

Tried synch of windows but still get the fault, I must be doing something wrong will have another go tomorrow.
