Hi all, what a way to introduce myself!

Hi all,

Thought as I am new to the audi sport forum thought I would introduce myself a bit!

This is my first car I have purchased (been driving the parents for 7 years!).

Purchased an 51 Plate Audi S3 1.8T 8L 61k on the clock!

Got a full check on it and this is where it has stung me :(

All this needs doing!

TECHNICIAN REPORT:
Front, rear lower wishbone bushes split
Front anti roll bar bushes
Rear anti roll bar bushes split
Both front C.V boots split

NOTES
Both inner C.V boots splitting
Sump damaged
N/S/R coil spring broken
V-Belt splitting
Haldex oil and filter due
BFC due
Cambelt Change due

Audi were going to charge parts and labour - Approx £3200

Private garage doing the work £1000 all in.

So yeah, that's that!

Also I am new to cars! So hopefully I can learn a lot! At least the understanding of what the parts are etc.

All been here at some point. Its worse when you cant diy. Labours probably a hell of a lot of that. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your list!! Oh and unless you like money falling through your fingers dont go back to audi. Find a desent vag specialist.

I don't know how Audi can even give you such a quote and keep a straight face? :huh: Of course there must be someone stupid enough out there to actually go ahead with the work to keep it FAudiSH!! Absolutely crazy! :wacko:

Hi Mate.

That's mostly all standard ... welcome to the Money Pit ... there are several good specialists here in Milton Keynes, there's also a good bloke down near Hemel in Flaunden.

I'd seriously put thought into poly bushing everything now as you're paying the labour to have it done anyway it won't cost a lot more for the poly bushes.

Most of that stuff is not too bad to DIY if you have the enthusiasm and tools ... but as you're new to it probably best to stick to a specialist.

All the work has been done! Feels so much better now driving the car :)

Got an xcarlink fitted as well by a mate so loving that.

Front left bumper area needs a bit of paint work but nothing major. Will do that next year most likely!

Stage 1 remap - really thinking about getting that done as well!

Alloys need a refurb!

Dumb question but what is the difference between pre and post facelift? Wondering what mine is.


Main differences are the lights, both front and rear, facelift fronts are one piece with the indicators and look a little more modern, the S3 badges are different, pre-facelift ones a little classier, and the interior has different climate control on the facelift as the main difference.

oh and pre-facelift interiors are a lot more durable than facelift ones,

Pre facelift batter overall IMHO

Just keep reading loads of people's build threads and problems and the solutions people give, you'll pick things up in no time! I was completely new to turbo'd cars before I got mine and now I'm starting to get pretty confident with doing most things myself

The problem I think (guessing) with Audi is they price every item and it's associated labour charge....and don't get me wrong that alone is high enough on both counts. But i think where it gets stupid is that to change for example (a really simple example) brakes and shocks and springs they don't figure reasonably into the equation the combined labour of the whole job....if getting it all done at the same time.
