Hilarious Fake Exhaust Trims on 8Y :-)

So I'm pretty sure it's not just me who has looked at their S-Line "exhausts" and laughed out loud, and THEN looked underneath so realise that in the Winter, you are going to have steam (on cold start) coming from the right SIDE of the back bumper, LOL.

My question is, does anyone know if the black inserts in the exhaust trims un-clip to make an actual recess? They feel like they do, but I'm not sure and don't want to force them.

If they do, I am definitely getting an exhaust fabricator to replace the massive backbox with a twin-routed pipe to vent from the newly opened trims.

Thanks all!

Yup, wouldn't have taken that much 'costs' to just leave that part (open) and maybe 'funnel' the exhaust out that way with some heat resistant plastic or even metal and through the other side too (eg...no need a 'real' exhaust system to split). Could be worse, have you seen the A5s? The left 'exhaust' trim is real (but real exhuast behind) and right side is just blocked out with plastic. Or better yet, the S5, with quad exhausts, which the right ones are completely fake!

I looked at the S3 rear lower panel and thought it looked the same so I intended ( If it does fit ) to get one of those and get a company to just make a twin exit pipe that joins to the original under car exit pipe.

As far as I know S3s use real round quad exhaust pipes. The other day I was behind a BMW 140i (or maybe maybe it was 135i, and the left exhaust had the flap closed, and right one was very much open. I'm sure if that driver gave it some, the left one would have opened.

Can confirm S3 8Y exhausts are real. All four!

Certainly as far as the latest M135i is concerned, the left (near side) one is closed in Comfort Mode and open in Sport.

This is correct, the exhaust valve opens immediately on startup then will close again until the engine is warm and only in sport mode.
You still get subdued popping though, at least mine does and a current S3 commented upon this.
As for the S4, the current one is a diesel and the only place for the ad blue container is where the right hand rear exhaust silencer was. I guess Audi, in their 'wisdom', felt that potential owners would be aggrieved if there was only twin tailpipes on the left, which usually, on the A4, denotes the 2.0l diesel...

I have noticed that VAG seem to have fallen in love with putting fake exhausts across the various company ranges, a theme seen with quite a few nowadays. Some with success, some utterly stupid! I assume this is to cater for the hybrid/fully electric models, so they all look the same - reduction in production costs?

At least the A3's are not as daft as some I have seen...

Has anyone compared the shape of the lower panel between an S3 and an A3 s-line.
If they are the same shape and just a different exhaust exit ( Fake v 4 pipes ) then I can get a quad pipe made to fit the mid link pipe or back box.

Good discussion, sounds like it's possible to stick an S3 diffuser on the SLine rear bumper then, and a fabricator could channel the exhausts accordingly, there's LOADS of room back there (on the 35TFSi anyway, not sure about the others).

It's on my list, but I keep bailing on mods at the moment, because it's the first brand new car I've had for a while I want to leave it as it is (except for gloss blacking the aluminium trims). I'm chucking my Forge spacers up for sale in a min.... argh!
