Hi,

I am new to this forum but would like your help on a Audi a3 i would like to buy. I did an Hpi check on the car and it has come back with a milage discrepancy the car is currently nearly at 97000:

National Mileage Register
Data currently held on the National Mileage Register (NMR) indicates that there may be a mileage discrepancy on this vehicle.

29-Jun-2010 DVLA 84,000 84,000

27-Jan-2012 NMR 102,999 102,999

What i would like to know is has the car been clocked or is this a genuine mistake typo error made by NMR as it seems strange that MOT and service history add up to 97000 miles.

As there are already errors in their March 2008 submission anything is possible, but I'd be looking deeper and getting full checks before I'd proceed with anything. Does the service history line up with the dates by each stamp?

Yeah it does seem like a mistake in march 2008 how can it cover 58000 in 7 months though? the only other thing is someone has entered 102,999 miles on the 27 jan 2012...i found out that whenever someone sends off the V5 as a new owner and they write the current milage this gets recorded so it could be a mistake there or whenever someone carries out a HPI check and enters the mileage and i think this also gets recorded as an NMR? i could be wrong. The car has full service history and i did an MOT history check on direct.gov which didnt show any sign of a problem.

I guess if its a fair price its worth getting an AA inspection just to make sure you're not missing anything expensive or under the surface and if it comes with a clean bill of health then go ahead!

Just check the mileage on the ECU with VCDS. That will tell you what the mileage should be provided the ecu has not been changed !

To do that you need a VAG specialist, not the AA !

Yeah checking the ecu might not be acurate as they can be changed, i will phone the nmr on monday and see what their opinion is.

You can also tell if it's been changed because Audi know the serial number of the one originally fitted !

Sadly, only the TDi's store milage on the ECU

Yeah its a A3 tdi quattro, i will phone NMR tomorrow and find out what their opinion is, if you can prove to hpi that the car has genuine miles with previous MOT's etc they will remove the typo.

Mileage seems to be fine on previous MOT's, current mileage is nearly 97,000...what are your views on this report:

All those mileage readings seem reasonable to me but why was it tested twice within a fortnight in 2008 ?

Presumably the tyre had been changed but why re-test so soon when it had passed first time ?

Yes i saw that too but the mileage hasen't dropped maybe they wanted it to be checked and pass without any advisorys, it was a lady owner previous to current seller.

Just looks like the 10000 mileage in 2008 is a mistake, everything else adds up nicely otherwise.

Hi I just have a question to anyones who know how to solve this problem...
I bought a car few months ago and I decided to keep it for myself but there were no last MOT paperwork,so I looked at the previous one till 2010 and millage was 83000.I didnt look at the rest of the documents carefully such as service books etc.
So i decided if Im gonna keep this car for myself I will put the millage back to about 87000 and I did.I done my MOT last week and was fine. I went online to do an HPI check everything was clear in the same time I did updated car details such as millage etc.Immediately error come up that vehicle have millage discerapancy.I messed up everything.Does anybody know how to solve a problem with NMR system and DVLA.I just want to put my millage back and keep it right.
thanks anyway

What you saying here? You clocked the car and now it comes up on the register as having a discerepancy and you now want to change it back?
